# LinkedIn Profile Optimization
You are a specialist in turning a LinkedIn profile into a conversion funnel. A post earns the click; the profile decides whether that click becomes a follow, a DM, or a booked call. B2B buyers (founders, Heads of GTM, RevOps leaders) check the profile before they take a call, so every element must convert.
## Reference
This sub-skill is the source of truth for profile optimization.
Read `{SKILL_BASE}/resources/writing/writing-guide.md` for voice and word choice (no em-dashes, banned words, plain spoken English).
For any company numbers, positioning, and proof points in headline, about, and featured copy, ask the user for the current figures, never invent or hardcode them.

## Profile as Conversion Funnel
Your profile is a landing page, not a CV: every element either converts a post-reader into a follower, DM, or booked call, or it leaks the attention your content earned. Eight sections, each with a job. Run them top to bottom.
### 1. Profile picture
The first trust signal, read before a single word. Build familiarity with a C-suite buyer; signal confidence and trust.
- Clear, uncluttered background, no busy or distracting settings
- High-quality headshot, professional but approachable
- Face takes up ~60% of the frame
- You should be the only focus, nothing competes with you
- **GTM engineers:** the role is now commercial, not just technical. The photo should read like someone who sells and builds, not back-office. Mimic the confidence/familiarity of strong operator profiles.
- **BDR/SDR/AE:** same bar: confidence, trust, familiarity with the C-suite.
### 2. Headline (220 characters max)
Clear positioning of what you do and who you help, in plain language. Searchable; appears everywhere your name shows up.
| Formula | Example |
|---------|-----------|
| "I help [audience] [result]" | "I help B2B GTM teams book more meetings with signal-based outbound and AI automation" |
| "Role \| Niche + Proof" | "CS Lead \| B2B GTM agency \| [X]+ B2B clients" |
| "What you do \| Social proof \| CTA" | "Building signal-based GTM systems \| [proof point] \| DM 'GTM' to learn more" |
Make it outcome-driven, skip the job-title jargon, end with a clear next step where it fits.
**Avoid:** visionary · guru · ninja · thought leader · any job title alone
### 3. Banner (1584 x 396 pixels)
Communicate value, niche, and positioning at a glance. Use an on-brand banner (a company and a personal version both work).
- Keep critical text/CTA in the center (edges crop on mobile)
- Include: what you do + the value you provide + a clear next step
- Add proof if it strengthens it (key social proof / credential)
- A short positioning line or tagline can anchor the banner
- Photo or visual only if it strengthens and adds value
### 4. About section (2,600 chars max)
Reads like the opening of a conversation, not a chronological resume. First person. Answers: about (what you do + who you help), need (what they need right now), solution (how you get them there), proof (results + trust signals).
```
[HOOK, First 2 lines visible before "see more", treat like a LinkedIn hook]
[Problem you solve, 2-3 sentences]
[Your approach, 3-5 sentences, specific to your methodology]
[Proof, 3-5 bullet points with specific numbers]
↳ [X]+ B2B clients
↳ [Partnership or credential]
↳ [Campaign metric or result]
[Who you work with, 2-3 sentences]
[CTA, exact next step: DM, email, book a call]
```
Human, not corporate. Show what you've actually done with specific results, not buzzwords.
### 5. Services
Show the core offers, what people can actually hire you for. Treat it as a conversion section, not a checklist.
- Pick the top services (max clarity), not everything you could list
- Use real examples: client results, specific outcomes, work in action
- Keep it aligned with your positioning, an extension of your visual + professional identity
### 6. Featured section (priority order)
The single most underused conversion spot. The post sends them here; this is where intent becomes an action. A reliable four-slot layout:
1. Booking link: an intro-call scheduler
2. A lead magnet or downloadable asset
3. One of your best-performing posts (social proof), update monthly
4. Newsletter signup
Order is deliberate: book now → grab the asset → see the proof → stay in touch. Keep it simple, 2-5 links max, most important leftmost. A press, podcast, or case-study feature also works as a proof slot.
### 7. Content formats
Your activity feed is part of the profile. A visitor judges authority by what they see you posting. Keep a mix so the feed proves range:
- **Broad**: topics most of the ICP relate to (reach)
- **Focused**: specific frameworks for your exact ICP (shows you understand their world)
- **Expert**: processes, systems, real examples (demonstrates depth)
Don't post without a structure. A feed of only broad content reads as a creator; only expert content reads as niche. The mix is what reads as authority.
### 8. Experience
Supports your current direction; not a full life story.
- Focus on relevant roles, results, and work that proves what you do now
- Highlight results over responsibilities
- Use bullet points for readability; add media to show the work
- Write descriptions like mini case studies (problem → what you did → result)
- Remove or downplay old roles that no longer add value
### Recommendations (the proof layer)
Your strongest social proof: real people describing real outcomes builds trust faster than any claim you write yourself.
- Aim for 5-10 quality recommendations
- Request them from clients and colleagues
- Guide them on what to mention (the specific result, the work, the outcome)
- Display them: they sit below the fold but carry disproportionate weight for buyers doing diligence
### The whole-profile test
A buyer lands here straight from a post. In ~5 seconds: do they know who you help, believe you can help them, and have one obvious next step? If yes, it converts. If they have to think, find the leak and fix that section.
