# Memory hygiene
Use when a selected note may be stale, duplicated, misleading or no longer useful,
or when the user requests a bounded declaration audit. Inspect its current source,
dependencies and returned Memory request. Retain means keep advisory value; retire
means stop selecting obsolete advice; promote means a stronger source has already
accepted the complete lesson. These operations change disposition metadata, not
the note's prose. Select [the current question](procedure.md), or read
the same references manually:
- [Retain, retire or promote selected material](references/disposition.md).
- [Repair the controlling source and verify that it accepted the lesson](references/repair.md).
- [Inspect selected note declarations for errors](references/declarations.md).
Finish with a confirmed authorised disposition or the exact remaining gap.
No matching material means no corpus sweep. Optional method selection cannot
waive explicit candidate obligations, current task authority or receiving evidence.
Missing native runtime leaves current custody unknown; preserve managed sources.
