## Overview
Most lead magnets underperform not because the content is bad, but because the promise is vague, the result is too slow, or the wrong person opts in. This skill runs your lead magnet through 5 diagnostic questions, scores each dimension, and delivers a brutally honest verdict — followed by a rewrite of the headline and promise statement so it actually converts.
No sugarcoating. If it's weak, you'll hear it.
## When to Use
- You say "stress test my lead magnet"
- You say "why isn't my lead magnet converting"
- You're about to launch a new lead magnet and want a pre-flight check
- Your opt-in rate has dropped and you want to diagnose why
- You're rebuilding your freebie and want to start from a solid foundation
## How It Works
1. **Get the lead magnet details.** Ask the user to either:
- Paste the landing page copy (headline, subheadline, bullet points, CTA), OR
- Describe the lead magnet: what it is, what it promises, who it's for, and what the user does after opting in
2. **Run the 5-question stress test.** Evaluate each dimension honestly. Score each out of 10. Do NOT round up to be kind.
**Question 1: Is the promise specific enough?**
Vague = "tips to grow your business." Specific = "the 3-email sequence we used to convert 22% of free trial users in 14 days." What score does this promise earn? What would make it more specific?
**Question 2: Is the result achievable fast enough?**
Lead magnets win on speed. Can the person see a meaningful result in under 24 hours? If the promise requires weeks to see results, the opt-in motivation collapses. What's the speed score here, and how could the promise be reframed around a faster win?
**Question 3: Is it believable?**
Does the promise feel real or does it trigger the "that sounds too good / too vague" response? Is there a reason to believe embedded in the copy (a mechanism, a method name, a credential, a number)? Score the believability and explain what's missing.
**Question 4: Does it attract the right person?**
The #1 silent lead magnet killer: attracting people who will never buy. Is this lead magnet magnetic to people who are genuinely ready to solve this problem and invest in a solution? Or is it pulling in freebie collectors and people who aren't yet the right fit? Score and explain.
**Question 5: Does it pre-sell the paid offer?**
The best lead magnets are micro-previews of the transformation the paid offer delivers. Does this lead magnet create genuine desire for what comes next, or is it a standalone "cool thing" with no logical next step? Score and explain.
3. **Deliver the verdict.** Give a total score out of 50. Categorise:
- 40–50: Strong foundation. Minor tweaks needed.
- 25–39: Underperforming. Needs restructuring.
- Below 25: Rebuild from scratch. Here's why.
4. **Rewrite the headline and promise statement.** Using the findings from the audit, write:
- 3 alternative headlines (each taking a different angle: specificity, speed, or curiosity)
- 1 rewritten promise statement that addresses the weakest-scoring dimensions
- A one-line "opt-in value proposition" — the single sentence that goes under the headline button
5. **Give a prioritised 2-fix list.** Name the 2 highest-impact changes to make right now. Be specific — not "improve the headline" but "add the number of days to achieve the result in the headline."
## What the Agent Needs From You
- **Your lead magnet copy** — paste the landing page or describe the offer
- **What the opt-in leads to** — what's the next step or paid offer after they opt in?
- **Your target audience** — who is this for? (Be specific: role, situation, pain point)
- **Current conversion rate** (optional) — if you know it, this helps calibrate the audit
## Output
- 5-dimension score card with honest commentary on each
- Total score and category verdict
- 3 alternative headline rewrites
- 1 rewritten promise statement
- 1 opt-in value proposition
- 2-fix prioritised action list
All delivered in chat. Expect directness — the goal is a lead magnet that works, not one that feels good to look at.
