# Cover Letter — One Page, Human-Sounding, Evidence-Backed
Create a compelling one-page cover letter for a specific job application.
## Input
A job description, the candidate's resume (a previously tailored resume for
a similar role when one exists and has passed its own integrity check,
otherwise the master resume), and optionally a company name and job title.
## Approach
1. **Identify company and job title** from the job description (or use the
caller-supplied values when provided).
2. **Ground every claim in real experience.** Use the job description only
to decide which of the candidate's already-documented experiences are
most relevant -- the job description's requirements are never evidence
that the candidate has a skill; only the resume is.
3. **Write a persuasive, human-sounding letter:**
- **Opening hook** (one short paragraph): lead with a concrete match or
proof, not "I am writing to express my interest" or "I am excited to
apply." Show real understanding of the role in plain language.
- **Value proposition** (one to two short paragraphs): connect 2-3
specific, real experiences to the role's key requirements -- brief
stories with real metrics where they exist, not a list of adjectives.
- **Company connection** (one short paragraph): one specific, true
detail about the company (its product, research, or mission) -- never
a generic "impressed by your commitment to excellence."
- **Strong close** (one short paragraph): a clear ask and a thank-you;
no "Moreover," "In conclusion," or "passionate about."
## Format and Human-Voice Requirements
- Maximum one page, 400 words or fewer
- Professional but personable -- not slang, not corporate poetry
- No banned AI lexicon (see the writing-coach guidance): delve, leverage,
robust, seamless, tapestry, furthermore, and similar filler
- Varied sentence lengths; short paragraphs
- No placeholder text (e.g. "[Your Address]") -- ready to send as written
- Run the human-voice check before treating a letter as final; a failure
means rewriting the flagged phrasing (banned words, filler transitions,
or length) and checking again, up to two rewrite rounds, before moving on
## Non-Negotiables
- Never invent experience, employers, or metrics -- only reframe what is
real and already documented in the resume
- Never build a letter on a tailored resume that has not itself passed its
own integrity check against the master resume -- when in doubt, work from
the master resume instead
- Keep the letter to one page; cut rather than pad
