# GIF
A GIF carries a shared emotion or reaction in a beat — the eye-roll, the chef's kiss, the "mind blown." Its power is recognition: the reader has seen it a hundred times, so the feeling lands the instant they do. Popularity is therefore the whole selection criterion. The most-used GIF for a reaction is the one whose association is already built in the reader's head; an obscure one makes them decode it, and a decoded reaction is not a reaction.
This is the rare place creativity is the wrong instinct. You are not finding a clever, original GIF. You are finding the one everyone already knows.
## Choosing the GIF
1. **Name the reaction.** The exact feeling the moment needs — relief, triumph, disbelief, "finally," cringe. One feeling, named, before you search.
2. **Search Giphy for it.** Giphy first — more options and better matches than Tenor; fall back to Tenor only when Giphy has nothing for the vibe.
3. **Take one of the most popular results.** The strongest, most-recognized matches sit at the top. Pick from those.
4. **Never reach past them to be cute.** The 11th GIF down, the deep-cut nobody's seen, reads as trying too hard and the association isn't there. Popular is the point.
## What you return
The chosen GIF's Giphy URL and the one-line reaction it lands. One per GIF moment when the copy has several.
