# LinkedIn Engagement Strategy
You handle the organic side of reach: how people interact with a post, how your own commenting compounds visibility, and how to grow without setting off the platform's abuse detection. The hard limits on connections, messages, and account warm-up are not stored here; this skill routes to where they live (see References).
## References
Pull in as needed:
- `{SKILL_BASE}/resources/platform/algorithm.md` for interaction weighting, dwell time, and the commenting mechanics.
- `{SKILL_BASE}/resources/social-selling/social-selling-campaigns.md` for activity caps, warm-up, and turning warm audiences into conversations. For cold outreach, use the gt-linkedin-outbound skill.
## Engagement weights (what the algorithm counts most)
Each interaction carries a different weight. Rough values, relative to a like:
| Signal | Rough weight | Why it counts |
|---|---|---|
| Save / bookmark | ~5x a like | the reader means to come back, the strongest intent signal |
| Comment, 15+ words | ~4x | real attention, and it opens a relationship |
| Share with a note | ~3 to 4x | carries the post into a whole new network |
| Comment, under 15 words | ~2x | still helps, just says less |
| Like / reaction | 1x (the baseline) | the floor |
| "See more" tap | ~0.5 to 1x | a flicker of curiosity, low commitment |
The takeaway: optimize for saves and real comments, not likes. Those are the signals that widen distribution.
## Your own commenting is a growth lever
Commenting is the highest-return activity on the platform, because it borrows other people's audiences:
- Make each comment substantial, fifteen words or more, carrying a real point, an experience, or a question.
- Leave somewhere between ten and twenty of them a day on posts in your space.
- Aim at accounts larger than yours, where the visibility payoff is bigger.
- Get in early. The first half hour after a post lands is where the top comment slot is won.
- Shape it well: a strong opening line, a break, and a question to invite a reply.
### Comment openers you can adapt
- **Build on it:** "Same thing showed up for us at [company], where [specific detail]. Have you run into [related angle]?"
- **Bring receipts:** "We ran this last quarter and landed [specific outcome]. The piece I would add is [insight]."
- **Push back politely:** "Not what I have seen, honestly. In [context] it went the other way because [evidence]. Where do you think the difference is?"
## Dwell time optimization
How long a reader lingers on a post feeds its score even if they never tap a thing. Around ten seconds of reading reads as positive; an instant scroll-by reads as negative. To earn that time:
- Write long enough to carry a real insight, and open with a hook that promises the payoff.
- Use a dense single-image infographic, which forces a zoom and a pause.
- Reward a slow read: tell a story, walk through a build, lay out numbered steps.
- Keep lines short and whitespace generous so the eye keeps moving down instead of bouncing off.
- Avoid a wall of text or a weak opener; both trigger the instant scroll-past.
## Activity limits and DM sequences (kept in one place)
The caps on connection requests and messages, the account warm-up, and the DM sequence templates all belong to the outbound side, and each lives in exactly one place so the numbers never drift:
- **Warm audiences** (profile viewers, followers, connections, post engagers): see `{SKILL_BASE}/resources/social-selling/social-selling-campaigns.md`.
- **Cold outreach to strangers:** the `gt-linkedin-outbound` skill.
One bridge for this skill: your comments and profile activity draw from the same daily ceiling as outreach, so keep organic engagement within the caps in social-selling-campaigns.md (broadly, fifteen to twenty connection requests a day, around a hundred a week, and a two-to-three-week warm-up on a fresh account).
## Do not run pods
- LinkedIn has spent the last couple of years catching engagement pods and quietly throttling them, because the coordinated pattern looks artificial.
- Formal pods carry rising risk: a flagged account loses distribution, it does not gain it.
- The version that lasts is a real circle of ten to twenty peers who genuinely engage with each other's work.
- Organic mutual support is safe; a scheduled pod is not.
## Examples
**Plenty of likes, almost no comments.** The posts are likeable but not answerable. Close each one with a pointed, specific question, write things people can disagree with or reply to with their own story, and use the occasional poll to get the audience in the habit of interacting.
**A founder chasing inbound pipeline.** Spend fifteen to twenty minutes a day commenting on the posts of ICP prospects. For the DM side, lean on the profile-viewer follow-up and the caps in social-selling-campaigns.md. Never open with a pitch; ask about their problem first.
**An account restricted after pushing outreach too hard.** Pause all outbound for two to three days, then restart on the warm-up ramp in social-selling-campaigns.md. Until the limits reset, lean on organic comments instead of DMs.
