# lens-platform-native

**Lens mode.** Source authority: Gary Vee's "day-trading attention" thesis — the same idea performs differently on every platform, and the platform's native shape is non-negotiable.

## When to use

Use when the deliverable is *the same idea ported across surfaces.* Cross-posting a long-form essay to LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram caption, TikTok script, email, Substack note, YouTube community post. Trigger this lens when the brief is "we wrote one post, now adapt it for three platforms" or "the post did well on X but flopped on Y."

## Procedure

1. **Read the platform intelligence.** Each platform has a current native shape — feed dynamics, length tolerance, reward signal, audience posture. LinkedIn rewards earned-authority and operator narratives; Twitter/X rewards compressed insight and reply-loops; Instagram rewards image-first emotional triggers; TikTok rewards first-second pattern interrupt; email rewards personal-feeling subject lines; Substack rewards thinking-out-loud cadence. Name the platform-specific reality the asset will live inside.
2. **Pick the emotional trigger.** Which one feeling does the platform reward right now for this audience? *Recognition, vindication, curiosity, indignation, surprise, calm, FOMO, belonging.* The trigger is what the algorithm and the human both respond to. Pick one. Stack-of-triggers reads as inauthentic.
3. **Decide the native format.** Not the topic — the *shape.* LinkedIn: short-paragraph narrative ending in a one-line takeaway. Twitter/X: a 7-tweet thread, or a single sharpened take. Instagram caption: image-anchored hook + one paragraph + CTA. TikTok script: 1-second visual + 3-second promise + 30-second payoff. Email: subject + preview + first-paragraph hook + body. The format follows the platform, not the writer's preference.
4. **State why this reader cares — on this surface.** Why is the reader on this specific platform right now? Are they unwinding (Instagram), networking (LinkedIn), arguing (Twitter/X), being entertained (TikTok), or reading inbox-curated content (email)? The "why care" line must match the posture, or the asset reads as off-key.
5. **Write the opening line for this platform.** One opening line — not five, not a list. The opening line that wins on LinkedIn loses on TikTok and vice versa. Match the native shape from step 3.

End every output with this exact contract:

**NATIVE-FRAME:**
- Platform intelligence: ...
- Emotional trigger: ...
- Native format: ...
- Why care (on this surface): ...
- Opening line: ...

## Decision rules

- **Use this lens last, after the idea is solid.** Platform-native framing is a finish, not a start. If the underlying insight is weak, platform-tuning amplifies the weakness.
- **One platform per pass.** Adapting to three platforms simultaneously produces a middle-distance asset that fits none. Run this lens three times, once per surface.
- **Match the reader's posture.** A reader scrolling TikTok at midnight will not read a 300-word LinkedIn-style intro. A reader on LinkedIn at 10am will not respond to a TikTok-style cold open.
- **Skip this lens for evergreen owned-channel assets.** Long-form blog posts, course modules, and docs do not need platform-native tuning; they need clarity and structure.
- **Don't fake nativeness.** A LinkedIn post that imitates "thought-leader" tropes without owning them reads worse than a plain version of the same idea.

## Anti-patterns

- **Impersonation.** Writing in "platform-creator voice" — "okay so here's the thing nobody talks about" — without earning it. Cadence-cosplay underperforms plain writing.
- **Same asset, five platforms, no edit.** The "post once, syndicate everywhere" approach. Reader on each surface feels the mismatch and scrolls past.
- **Algorithm-chasing.** Building the asset to game a current trick (hook-line spacing, emoji bullets, fake hashtag stacks) at the cost of saying anything. Tricks decay; substance compounds.
- **Posture-blind copy.** Writing operator-numbers content into a posture-driven feed, or emotional-narrative content into a transactional inbox. The reader is not in the wrong mood; the asset is in the wrong place.
- **Confusing platform-native with platform-pandering.** Native means *fits the surface*; pandering means *flatters the algorithm*. Different jobs.

## Before / after

**Brief:** A long-form essay on burnout, ported to a LinkedIn post.

**Before** (essay opening, dropped verbatim):
> *Burnout is one of the most misunderstood phenomena of modern work, and in this piece I want to explore its roots, its varied expressions, and what we as leaders can do about it.*

Reads as a school assignment in a LinkedIn feed.

**After** (LinkedIn-native):
> *Last Thursday I told a team lead to take a week off. He did not. I want to talk about why "take a break" stopped working as advice three years ago, and what I am saying instead now.*

Platform intelligence (LinkedIn rewards operator narrative). Trigger: recognition. Format: short narrative paragraph + one-line takeaway promise. Why care: leaders facing the same un-takable PTO. Opening line earns the second line.
