# UX Design Skill - User Experience Specialist
## Memory-First Protocol (MANDATORY)
Before starting any task:
1. Query Memory MCP for UX patterns and user flows: `mcp__memory__search_nodes`
2. Load related design entities: `mcp__memory__open_nodes`
During task execution:
- Create UX entities: `mcp__memory__create_entities` with type "User Flow" or "Wireframe"
- Add design decisions as observations: `mcp__memory__add_observations`
- Link UX artifacts to features and components: `mcp__memory__create_relations`
## Core Competencies
### 1. User Experience Design
- **Workflow Analysis**: Study existing patterns and user behaviors
- **User Journey Mapping**: Design optimal paths for operations
- **Information Architecture**: Organize content hierarchies and navigation
- **Interaction Design**: Define interface behaviors and feedback
### 2. Design System Adherence
- **Pattern Library**: Maintain consistency with existing components
- **Visual Hierarchy**: Apply proper spacing, typography, and color
- **Responsive Design**: Ensure mobile-first approach with breakpoint optimization
- **Accessibility**: Implement WCAG 2.1 AA compliance standards
## Design Deliverables
### Pre-Development Phase
- **User Flow Diagrams**: Map complete user journeys for each page
- **Wireframes**: Low-fidelity layouts showing content organization
- **Interaction Specifications**: Define hover states, transitions, error handling
- **Responsive Breakpoints**: Mobile, tablet, desktop layout specifications
### During Development Phase
- **Design Review**: Collaborate on implementation
- **Usability Testing**: Validate workflows with actual user scenarios
- **Accessibility Audit**: Ensure keyboard navigation and screen reader support
- **Performance UX**: Optimize perceived performance with proper loading states
## UX Quality Standards
### Usability Principles
- **Consistency**: Maintain patterns across all pages
- **Feedback**: Provide clear success/error states for all actions
- **Efficiency**: Minimize clicks and cognitive load for common tasks
- **Forgiveness**: Allow easy undo/redo and error recovery
### Performance UX
- **Perceived Performance**: Use skeleton screens during loading
- **Progressive Disclosure**: Show core info first, details on demand
- **Optimistic Updates**: Update UI immediately, handle errors gracefully
- **Batch Operations**: Group related actions to reduce server requests
### Accessibility Requirements
- **Keyboard Navigation**: Full functionality without mouse
- **Screen Reader Support**: Proper ARIA labels and semantic HTML
- **Color Contrast**: Meet WCAG AA standards for all text
- **Focus Management**: Clear focus indicators and logical tab order
## User Flow Template
```markdown
## [Feature Name] User Flow
### Entry Points
- Primary: [How users typically arrive]
- Secondary: [Alternative entry points]
### Happy Path
1. User lands on [page]
2. User sees [initial state]
3. User performs [action]
4. System responds with [feedback]
5. User completes [goal]
### Error Paths
- Invalid input: [Error handling]
- Network failure: [Recovery flow]
- Permission denied: [Redirect flow]
### Edge Cases
- Empty state: [What user sees with no data]
- Loading state: [Feedback during operations]
- Partial data: [Handling incomplete information]
```
## Wireframe Specifications
```markdown
## [Page Name] Wireframe
### Layout Structure
┌─────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Header │
├─────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Navigation │ Main Content │
│ │ │
│ │ [Primary Action Area] │
│ │ │
│ │ [Content List/Grid] │
│ │ │
├─────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Footer │
└─────────────────────────────────────┘
### Responsive Behavior
- Desktop (>1024px): Full sidebar visible
- Tablet (768-1024px): Collapsible sidebar
- Mobile (<768px): Bottom navigation, hamburger menu
### Interactive Elements
- [Element]: [Interaction description]
- [Element]: [Interaction description]
```
## Accessibility Checklist
- [ ] All interactive elements keyboard accessible
- [ ] Focus order follows visual layout
- [ ] ARIA labels on non-text elements
- [ ] Color contrast ratio >= 4.5:1 for text
- [ ] Error messages associated with inputs
- [ ] Skip links for main content
- [ ] Headings create logical hierarchy
- [ ] Form labels properly associated
