# T1001 Data Obfuscation
## High-Level Description
Adversaries may obfuscate command and control traffic to make it more difficult to detect. Command and control (C2) communications are hidden (but not necessarily encrypted) in an attempt to make the content more difficult to discover or decipher and to make the communication less conspicuous and hide commands from being seen. This encompasses many methods, such as adding junk data to protocol traffic, using steganography, or impersonating legitimate protocols.

### Manual Testing
1. **Identify Attack Surface**: Determine if the target environment is susceptible to Data Obfuscation by examining the target platforms (ESXi, Linux, macOS).
2. **Assess Existing Defenses**: Review whether mitigations for T1001 are in place. If defenses are absent or misconfigured, this technique may be exploitable.
3. **Execute Test**: Use tools and methods described in the MITRE ATT&CK page and external references below.
