## Safety Rules
- **Scans are read-only** -- they do not modify code or dependencies
- **`snyk monitor` uploads dependency graph to Snyk cloud** -- ensure compliance with data policies
- **Container scans pull images** -- ensure registry credentials are configured
- **IaC scans may contain sensitive paths** -- review output before sharing
- **Fix commands modify package files** -- review changes before committing

## Anti-Hallucination Rules
1. **NEVER assume resource names** — always discover via CLI/API in Phase 1 before referencing in Phase 2.
2. **NEVER fabricate metric names or dimensions** — verify against the service documentation or `--help` output.
3. **NEVER mix CLI commands between service versions** — confirm which version/API you are targeting.
4. **ALWAYS use the discovery → verify → analyze chain** — every resource referenced must have been discovered first.
5. **ALWAYS handle empty results gracefully** — an empty response is valid data, not an error to retry.

## Common Pitfalls
- **Authentication errors**: Token may be expired or scoped to wrong org -- check with `snyk auth`
- **Missing lockfiles**: Snyk needs lockfiles (package-lock.json, Gemfile.lock) for accurate dependency trees
- **Private registries**: Container scans need registry auth -- configure Docker credentials first
- **Monorepo scanning**: Use `--all-projects` for monorepos or scan each project directory individually
- **False positives**: Some vulnerabilities may not be reachable in your code -- use `--reachable-vulns` for better accuracy
- **Rate limiting**: Heavy API usage can trigger rate limits -- batch operations appropriately
- **Severity thresholds**: CI pipelines should use `--severity-threshold=high` to avoid failing on low-severity issues
- **Snyk Code vs Test**: `snyk code test` scans source code (SAST); `snyk test` scans dependencies (SCA)
