# Match feedback intensity to the consequence

Read [the feedback guide](../../references/feedback.md). This workflow is application advice; sensory channels depend on the platform and available hardware.

Inspect the triggering action/state, consequence, reversibility, existing cues, platform, and create/review/adapt goal. Distinguish routine state, significant completion, unavailable action, and unexpected irreversible loss. Record what actually completed; a local press animation does not prove remote success.

Keep routine feedback near its object. Confirm consequential completion such as payment with a durable useful outcome; avoid noisy success banners for every small action. Explain why an unavailable command cannot run and how to proceed. Warn before unexpected irreversible loss while preserving ordinary expected deletion/undo patterns. Use complementary visual/text/audio/haptic cues rather than one essential sense. Reserve alerts for critical actionable information. On watch do not imply a person must stare at an indeterminate wait; explain when completion can be delivered later.

Implement the relevant feedback and recovery, specify event-to-message/channel/next-step behavior, or review concrete missing/false outcome cues. Do not prescribe unavailable haptics or claim device feedback was exercised from Linux.

**Worked transformation:** Before: a transfer app plays a chime immediately on press, later fails silently, and shows an alert for every copied reference number. Decision: feedback significance is inverted. After: show truthful transfer progress/result with recovery, reserve the meaningful completion cue for confirmed transfer, and use subtle nearby confirmation for Copy.

Deliver the artifact and trigger/truth-source/intensity/recovery contract. Verify successful, rejected, delayed, and unavailable actions plus muted/nonvisual interpretation. Fail for false success, critical sound-only information, unexplained inability, or routine interruption overload. Report channels inspected versus actually executed.
