# Repo Benchmarking
## When This Skill Applies

## Core Guidance
### 1. Clone and Isolation Protocol

> **Who runs this pipeline: the leader, once, via code.** `lib/git/repo-acquire.js#acquireRepo` implements the whole line above (validation in `lib/core/repo-input.js#parseRepoInput`) and returns `{ localPath, sourceUrl, sourceSha, cacheStatus, sizeBytes, depth }`. Under [`/repo`](../../commands/repo.md) it is called at § *Execution Flow* step 2 and analysts receive a `localPath` — **a teammate or sub-agent never clones**, because a second clone re-derives the destination and the size guard from prose instead of from the one function that enforces them. Steps 1–3 of the checklist below are therefore the leader's steps. Invoked standalone with no leader, you are the leader: call the helper, do not hand-roll `git clone`.
**Security Rules**:
- HTTPS URLs only (reject SSH, file://, relative paths)
- Clone directory: `~/.claude/artibot/repos/[sanitized-name]/`
- Max repo size: 500MB (abort if exceeded)
- Never run npm install, make, or any script from cloned repos
- Strip shell metacharacters from repo name

### 3. Evaluation Dimensions (10-point scale)
> **This table is the single source of truth for the weights.** [`/repo`](../../commands/repo.md) § *10 Scoring Dimensions* carries the rubric (what each dimension measures) and defers here for the weights that produce its `WEIGHTED TOTAL (/100)` output; the [repo-benchmarker agent](../../agents/repo-benchmarker.md) mirrors this table for standalone spawns. Change the weights here first, then update the agent mirror — never edit only one.

**Total: 100 points maximum (weighted sum)**
#### 3a. `N/A` — 4 rules (apply before you sum)
**Not every dimension applies to every repo.** A curated list has no hook system; a CLI has
no skill system. Scoring an absent dimension is not rigor, it is invention — score it `N/A`.
These four rules are summarized here because this skill is loadable **standalone** (a spawn
that never opens the driver command would otherwise score without the convention). The full
statement lives in [`/repo`](../../commands/repo.md) § *10 Scoring Dimensions*; change it
there first, then mirror here.
1. **`N/A` is not zero.** A zero says "they did this badly"; `N/A` says "this axis does not
exist here". Never fold `N/A` into the total as 0 — that silently penalizes a repo for
not being a plugin.
2. **Drop `N/A` dimensions out of the denominator, and print the denominator you used.**
`41 / 60 possible (4 dims N/A)`, never a bare `41`. A total with no denominator cannot be
compared to anything, and two repos with different denominators are **not** directly
comparable — say so instead of ranking them side by side.
3. **State why.** `N/A` is a claim like any other: cite the structure scan that shows the
dimension is absent.
4. **`N/A` ≠ `UNINSPECTED`.** `N/A` (the axis does not exist) is different from
`UNINSPECTED` / `SHALLOW` / `INSUFFICIENT-INSPECTION` (the axis exists, you did not look
hard enough). The first is a property of the repo; the rest are properties of your effort.
Do not use one to cover the other.
### 3b. Artibot Baseline (pinned — never re-scored mid-benchmark)
> Benchmarks score the **target repo only**; the Artibot column is read from this table. Reason: two judges in one session (2026-08-17) scored the same Artibot tree 4.0 points apart on the same 40-point slice, because each anchored to the repo sitting in the comparison column — a relative scale inflates Artibot next to weak targets. A pinned baseline removes that drift and makes results from different benchmark runs comparable for the first time. Re-pin deliberately (release audit or explicit user request) — if a run surfaces evidence a value is wrong, **report the discrepancy with `file:line`, do not silently overwrite**.

**Pinned weighted total: 84.0/100** (v4.46.0, 2026-08-17). Provenance, honestly: dims 1–5 single-judge, dims 6–7 dual-judge resolved on orchestrator-verified evidence, dim 10 a conceded value — this is a working baseline, not a full-tree audit.
### 4. Cache Strategy
- Cache location: `~/.claude/artibot/repos/[repo-name]/`
- Re-clone: `git pull` if cache exists (unless `--compare-only` / `--skip-clone` — synonyms, see [`/repo`](../../commands/repo.md) § *Arguments*)
- Stale threshold: 7 days (suggest refresh)
- Cleanup: Manual via `rm -rf ~/.claude/artibot/repos/[repo-name]`
### 5. Large Repo Handling
- Default: `--depth 1` (shallow clone)
- `--deep` flag: full clone for commit history analysis
- File limit: Analyze top 500 files by relevance (config > source > docs > assets)
- Directory delegation: >7 directories triggers sub-agent parallelization
- Timeout: 5 min clone, 10 min analysis (abort with partial results)
## Workflow Checklist

> **Step 8, second half — the already-in-Artibot filter.** A candidate that already exists in Artibot is not an adoptable element; it is a `REJECT — already implemented` with the Artibot `file:line` as evidence. Run this grep *before* Checkpoint 3, so the human is never asked to prioritize something Artibot already has. Same rule, stated command-side as Execution Flow step 10 of [`/repo`](../../commands/repo.md).
