# Reasonable Suspicion 2-Hour Supervisor Course Documentation

Per § 382.603, every supervisor must complete 60 minutes of training on each of alcohol misuse and controlled substance use indicators. The "2-hour" reference is the combined total.

## Course content (per FMCSA)
- Physical, behavioral, speech, performance indicators of probable drug/alcohol use
- The reasonable-suspicion testing requirement
- The supervisor's role in observation
- Documentation of observed behavior

## Required documentation
- Training certificate (instructor or vendor-issued)
- Training date
- Hours: 60+ minutes alcohol + 60+ minutes drug = 2 hours minimum
- Instructor name or vendor
- Topics covered (list)
- Supervisor name + position

## Where to retain
- Supervisor's personnel file (NOT the DQF)
- HR/training records section
- Retention: per § 382.401(b)(1)(iii) — 2 years

## Frequency
- **Initial**: before supervisor can make reasonable-suspicion calls
- **Refresher**: not federally mandated, but best practice every 2-3 years (FMCSA expects supervisors to remain "knowledgeable")

## In-house qualification requirements
If you deliver internally, instructor must:

- Have practical experience or formal training in substance abuse recognition
- Document the training delivered

- Topic coverage not detailed
- Refresher overdue without recognition
