# LinkedIn Profile Optimizer
## When to Use This Skill
Use this skill when the user wants to:
- Optimize their LinkedIn profile for job searching
- Improve LinkedIn visibility and searchability
- Sync their resume with their LinkedIn profile
- Attract recruiters and job opportunities
- Mentions: "LinkedIn", "LinkedIn profile", "optimize LinkedIn", "LinkedIn headline", "recruiter"
## Core Capabilities
- Optimize headline for searchability
- Write compelling About/Summary sections
- Structure Experience section for impact
- Improve profile completeness score
- Add relevant keywords for recruiter searches
- Align LinkedIn with resume while leveraging platform differences
## LinkedIn vs. Resume: Key Differences
| Aspect | Resume | LinkedIn |
|--------|--------|----------|
| Length | 1-2 pages | Unlimited |
| Tone | Formal | More conversational |
| Keywords | Job-specific | Industry-wide |
| Audience | One specific employer | All recruiters |
| Updates | Per application | Always current |
| Personality | Minimal | Show more |
## Profile Section Optimization
Work through each section in order — photo and banner establish credibility, the headline and About section drive searchability, Experience and Skills carry the keyword weight, and Featured/Recommendations add social proof:
1. **Profile Photo** — professional headshot, face ~60% of frame, neutral/branded background (21x more views than no photo)
2. **Background Banner** — professional design or industry image, 1584x396px, avoid busy patterns
3. **Headline** — most important field for searchability; formula `[Role] | [Key Expertise] | [Value Proposition]`, packed with recruiter-searched keywords (220 char limit)
4. **About Section** — hook + 3-5 paragraphs (who you are, achievements, what you're looking for) + skills list + CTA; first ~300 characters are what shows before "see more" (2,600 char limit)
5. **Experience Section** — longer/more detailed than a resume, with media attachments; 4-6 achievement bullets per role
6. **Skills Section** — list all 50 slots, ordered by relevance/endorsements, mixing technical, tool, methodology, and soft skills
7. **Featured Section** — portfolio pieces, articles, presentations; appears prominently so use it for best work
8. **Recommendations** — target 5-10 from managers, reports, cross-functional partners, and clients; give recommendations first to prompt reciprocity
See `references/profile-section-guide.md` for full requirements, character limits, and worked examples (headlines, About section, Experience entry) for each section.
