# Skill maintenance
1. Treat explicit lasting instructions or demonstrated recurring lessons as authorization for scoped policy updates.
2. Extract trigger, action, scope and exceptions into the existing source-owned rule.
3. Place universal boundaries in bootstrap, triggered procedures in skills and mechanically decidable rules in hooks.
4. Check a matching and nonmatching case with the standard validator or existing fixture.
5. Publish and activate explicit maintenance through `agent-policy` before declaring it retained.
6. Run `bun run check:guides` before harness redesign or audit under the 90-day guide refresh rule.
