# AI Slop Checker

AI Slop Checker (command `slop-check`) is a rule-based checker for German and English articles, posts and newsletters. It flags passages that say nothing specific, claims without a source, numbers and people that need checking, stock phrases, repetitive structure and flat rhythm. It runs locally in Python, needs no packages and sends no data anywhere.

## When to use

- The user asks you to review, proofread or check a draft for quality.
- The user asks "is this slop?", "does this sound like AI?" or "what is generic here?".
- The user wants to know which claims, numbers or names in a text need a source.

Do not use it to decide who wrote a text. It finds patterns, it does not prove authorship.

## How to run it

The code is bundled next to this file in `slopcheck/`. Run it with this skill folder on the Python path. `SKILL_DIR` is the folder that contains this SKILL.md.

1. Save the text to a file if it is not one already, for example `draft.md`.
2. Run:

   ```
   PYTHONPATH="$SKILL_DIR" python3 -m slopcheck draft.md --format json
   ```

   Add `--lang de` or `--lang en` when you know the language. If the user has notes, an interview transcript or another source the text is based on, add `--source notes.md`. slop-check then lists facts from the source that went missing and new numbers in the text that the source does not contain.

3. For a report the user can open in a browser, add `--format html --out report.html` and give them the path.

If `python3` is missing, tell the user that slop-check needs Python 3.9 or newer.

## How to report the result

- Start with the verdict (`pass`, `revise` or `too_short`) and the reason in one sentence.
- Then list findings, substance first. For each one quote the passage exactly, name the pattern, and give the suggested fix in your own words.
- List the people named in the text under "to verify". Say plainly that you have not checked whether they exist or said what the text claims.
- If a source was given, show what went missing and which new numbers have no source.
- For `too_short`, say that the text is too short for a reliable check and stop there.
- Rhythm values (R-01 to R-09) are hints. One value outside the band is common in human texts too; only R-10 (many values on the generated side at once) is a real finding. Do not present a single rhythm hint as evidence.
- Long dashes (F-01) are a style rule, not proof of AI. If the user likes them, they can switch the rule off with `--dashes off`.

## Rules

- Do not rewrite the text unless the user asks for it. The default is a list of findings.
- Never invent facts. When a fix needs a detail you do not have (a number, a name, an example from the user's own work), write a placeholder such as `[your number]` or ask the user for it.
- Keep quotes, titles, code and names of products unchanged.
- Treat a finding as a reason to look again, not as a verdict. If a flagged passage is fine in context, say so.
- Do not judge whether a human or a model wrote the text.
- Answer in the language the user writes in. Both German and English texts are supported.
