# Holistic Healing Framework
Address any problem by integrating physical, spiritual, and relational dimensions, ensuring interventions work across all levels rather than treating symptoms in isolation.
---
## When to Use
- A problem persists despite repeated interventions at a single level
- Someone is addressing physical symptoms while ignoring spiritual/relational causes (or vice versa)
- Complex challenges requiring whole-person or whole-system approaches
- Health, wellness, creative, or organizational issues with multiple dimensions
- User asks "What's the holistic approach?" or "How do I address all dimensions?"
---
## Inputs
| Input | Required | Description |
|-------|----------|-------------|
| problem | Yes | Description of the challenge, condition, or situation to address |
| context | No | Individual, team, organization, or relationship context |
| interventions_tried | No | What has already been attempted and what were the results |
---
## Workflow
### Hildegard's Principle
Hildegard did not separate body from soul, nature from grace, or individual from community. Illness in any dimension reflects and affects all others. True healing addresses the whole.
*"Humanity, take a good look at yourself. Inside, you've got heaven and earth, and all of creation. You're a world—everything is hidden in you."*
### The Three Dimensions
#### 1. Physical/Material Dimension
The body, the tangible, the practical infrastructure.
**For individuals:**
- Physical health: sleep, movement, nourishment, medical conditions
- Environment: workspace, home, access to nature
- Material resources: financial stability, tools, time
- Bodily practices: what you eat, how you move, what you expose yourself to
**For organizations:**
- Physical workspace and tools
- Financial health and resource allocation
- Operational processes and systems
- Technology and infrastructure
**Hildegard's approach:** Natural remedies working with the body's own wisdom. Diet, herbs, minerals, elements—addressing physical conditions with physical means while recognizing their spiritual significance.
#### 2. Spiritual/Meaning Dimension
The soul, purpose, connection to transcendent meaning.
**For individuals:**
- Sense of purpose and meaning
- Values alignment in daily life
- Spiritual practice (whatever form it takes)
- Creative expression—the soul's "music"
- Connection to something larger than self
- Inner life: prayer, meditation, reflection
**For organizations:**
- Mission and why it matters
- Values lived, not just stated
- Culture of meaning vs. mere transaction
- Space for reflection and deeper purpose
**Hildegard's approach:** Vision, music, prayer, creative expression. The soul is symphonic—it must sound. Silence the soul's music and illness follows.
#### 3. Relational/Community Dimension
Connection to others, belonging, interdependence.
**For individuals:**
- Quality of key relationships
- Sense of belonging to community
- Giving and receiving support
- Connection vs. isolation
- Healthy boundaries vs. over-extension
**For organizations:**
- Team relationships and trust
- Stakeholder connections
- Community engagement
- Collaboration vs. competition internally
**Hildegard's approach:** The monastery as healing community. The abbess who corresponded with hundreds, building networks of mutual support. No healing happens alone.
### The Diagnostic Process
#### Step 1: Map All Three Dimensions
For the presenting problem, assess the state of each dimension:
| Dimension | Current State | Connection to Problem |
|-----------|---------------|----------------------|
| Physical/Material | [healthy/stressed/critical] | [how it contributes] |
| Spiritual/Meaning | [healthy/stressed/critical] | [how it contributes] |
| Relational/Community | [healthy/stressed/critical] | [how it contributes] |
#### Step 2: Identify the Primary Disconnection
Where is the root? Problems often present in one dimension but originate in another:
- Physical symptoms with spiritual roots (burnout, psychosomatic illness)
- Spiritual emptiness with relational roots (isolation masquerading as existential crisis)
- Relational breakdown with physical roots (exhaustion that prevents connection)
*Ask: If this dimension were healed, would the others follow? That's likely the root.*
#### Step 3: Check for Ignored Dimensions
What has been overlooked?
- All interventions physical? (medication, rest, exercise) The soul may be starving.
- All interventions spiritual? (meditation, therapy, purpose-seeking) The body may be neglected.
- All interventions relational? (communication, boundaries, support) The material foundation may be crumbling.
### The Integration Process
#### Step 4: Design Integrated Intervention
Address all three dimensions, with emphasis on the root:
**Physical Interventions:**
- What concrete, material changes support healing?
- What does the body need?
- What environmental changes help?
**Spiritual Interventions:**
- What does the soul need to express?
- How can purpose and meaning be restored or clarified?
- What practices reconnect to the transcendent?
**Relational Interventions:**
- What connections need healing or building?
- Where is isolation harming?
- What community can support this journey?
#### Step 5: Sequence Appropriately
Some interventions must come first:
- **Physical foundation:** If the body is in crisis (no sleep, illness, no resources), address this first. The soul cannot thrive in a collapsing body.
- **Spiritual diagnosis:** If physical symptoms persist despite treatment, the root may be spiritual—meaning, purpose, the soul's silenced music.
- **Relational scaffolding:** Major changes require support. Build the community before attempting the transformation.

[Which dimension holds the root? Why do you assess this?]
### Integrated Intervention Plan
**Phase 1:** [What must come first—typically stabilization]
**Phase 2:** [Address the root dimension]
**Phase 3:** [Strengthen the supporting dimensions]
### The Whole Vision
[What does health look like when all three dimensions are flourishing?]
```
---
## Constraints
- Do not collapse into a single dimension (all physical, all spiritual, all relational)
- Do not prescribe spiritual interventions for physical emergencies (or vice versa)
- Acknowledge the limits of your assessment—some conditions require professional medical, psychological, or spiritual care
- Respect that people may not share your framework—offer it gently
- Honor the mystery: some suffering cannot be diagnosed and healed through frameworks
---
## Outputs
**Primary Output:** A structured analysis document that identifies and articulates patterns, insights, and actionable recommendations based on the input data.
**Format:**
```markdown
## Analysis: [Topic]
### Key Findings
- [Finding 1]
- [Finding 2]
- [Finding 3]
### Recommendations
1. [Action 1]
2. [Action 2]
3. [Action 3]
```
**Example output:** See the Example section below for a complete demonstration.
## Example
**Input:** "I keep getting sick—colds, flu, just feeling run down all the time. I've seen doctors, I take vitamins, I exercise. Nothing helps. Is there something else going on?"
**Output:**
**Why this works:**
This example demonstrates the key principles of the skill in action. The approach is effective because:
- It follows the systematic workflow outlined above
- It shows concrete application of the framework
- It produces actionable, specific outputs rather than vague generalizations
- The analysis is grounded in observable details
- The recommendations are prioritized and implementable
**Alternative applications:**
This same approach can be applied to:
- Different contexts within the same domain
- Related but distinct problem types
- Scaled up or down depending on scope
- Combined with complementary analytical frameworks
## Holistic Healing Assessment
### The Presenting Problem
Recurring illness despite attention to physical health interventions. The body is speaking, and the message has not yet been heard.
### Three-Dimensional Diagnosis
#### Physical/Material Dimension
**Current state:** Receiving attention—doctors, vitamins, exercise
**Connection to problem:** Clearly manifesting here, but interventions aren't working
**What's been tried:** Medical consultation, supplementation, physical activity
**What's needed:** Continue appropriate physical care, but the persistence suggests the root lies elsewhere
#### Spiritual/Meaning Dimension
**Current state:** Unknown—not mentioned
**Connection to problem:** Potential root. Hildegard observed that the body often sickens when the soul is depleted. The recurring nature suggests chronic depletion, not acute infection.
**What's been tried:** Unknown
**What's needed:** Assessment of:
- Is your work meaningful to you, or are you enduring it?
- When did you last feel genuinely alive, creative, purposeful?
- Has the soul's "music" been silenced—have you stopped doing what you love?
- Is there grief, loss, or transition that remains unprocessed?
#### Relational/Community Dimension
**Current state:** Unknown—not mentioned
**Connection to problem:** Isolation weakens the body's defenses. Over-extension drains vitality that should support immune function.
**What's been tried:** Unknown
**What's needed:** Assessment of:
- Are your relationships nourishing or draining?
- Do you have community that holds you, or are you bearing everything alone?
- Are you giving more than you receive, chronically?
### Root Identification
The persistence of physical symptoms despite appropriate physical intervention strongly suggests the root lies in the spiritual or relational dimension. Hildegard would say: *"The viriditas has been blocked—the greening power that should flow through your body has been cut off at its source."*
I would investigate the spiritual dimension first: meaning, purpose, creative expression, joy. When did you last feel truly alive? What are you tolerating that your soul cannot accept?
### Integrated Intervention Plan
**Phase 1: Stabilization**
- Continue physical basics: rest, nourishment, moderate exercise
- But add: reduce demands if possible; create space; stop pushing through
**Phase 2: Soul Investigation**
- Journal inquiry: What is my body trying to tell me? What am I tolerating that I shouldn't be?
- Experiment: What small act of creativity, play, or meaning can you restore this week?
- Consider: Is there grief, anger, or loss that has been suppressed and is now emerging as illness?
**Phase 3: Relational Assessment**
- Inventory relationships: Who nourishes? Who drains?
- Evaluate isolation: Are you bearing this alone?
- Consider: What support do you need that you're not asking for?
### The Whole Vision
Imagine: A body that has energy not just for tasks but for life. A sense of purpose that makes getting up feel worthwhile. Creative expression returning—whatever form it takes. Relationships that hold you when you're weak and celebrate when you're strong. The illnesses become rare because the viriditas flows freely again—from spiritual source through physical vessel.
The body is wise. It has been trying to tell you something. Honor its message by looking beyond the physical symptoms to the soul and community that sustain it.
