## Core Principle
**Gerstner's Insight:** IBM's services revenue grew from $7.4 billion (12% of revenue) in 1992 to $36 billion (45% of revenue) in 2002. This was not an add-on to the hardware business; it was a fundamental transformation in what IBM was and how it made money.
