Anonymous is a decentralized international hacktivist collective that emerged from the imageboard 4chan in the mid-2000s. Without leaders, membership, or formal organization, Anonymous has conducted operations against the Church of Scientology, government agencies, corporations, and terrorist organizations. The collective pioneered methodologies for leaderless digital resistance - proving that coordinated action is possible without coordination, that identity can be collective rather than individual, and that the absence of structure can itself be a form of power that centralized institutions cannot defeat.
