Price an exotic, luxury or Turo rental car against the real market: where a daily rate sits among published competitor rates for the same make and model in the same city, deposit and mileage norms, weekday, weekend and multi-day math, and Turo versus direct booking take-home. Triggers on \"how much should I charge\", \"price my Huracan\", \"turo calculator\", \"am I too expensive\". Not for a full market report (use car-rental-market-scan).

# Car Rental Pricing
Answer the question every rental operator asks weekly: "what should this car
rent for?" The skill puts the owner's car next to every published rate for the
same model in the same market, works out the take-home after platform fees and
costs, and lays out a rate card. The owner decides the price; the skill makes
the decision a ten-minute one.
Market data comes from the CarRentalList catalog: read
[references/catalog-data.md](../../references/catalog-data.md) first.
## When to use
- "How much should I charge for my 2023 Urus in Miami?"
- "Am I priced too high? My G 63 is $899 a day in Atlanta."
- "Turo calculator": what a car nets on Turo versus booking direct
- Setting weekend, weekly or event rates, or a deposit and mileage policy
- Before a price change, to see who else moved (`catalog_highlights`)
Not for a whole-market report (use `car-rental-market-scan`) or for writing the
listing itself (use `car-rental-listing-writer`).
## Input
Ask for what is missing, in one message:
- Car: year, make, model, trim (e.g. 2022 Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder)
- City and state
- Current rate, deposit, included miles and per-mile overage, minimum age
- Optional, for take-home: monthly payment or depreciation, insurance, cleaning,
delivery cost, platform (Turo, own site, both) and the Turo plan the host is
on (the user supplies the fee percentage; do not assume one)
## Workflow
1. `price_overview` with `make` + `model` + `city` + `state`. If under 5 priced
cars, repeat for the state, then nationwide, and say which level you used.
2. `search_vehicles` with the same `make`, `model`, `city`, `state`,
`priced_only: true`, `min_price` and `max_price` about 15% either side of the
user's rate, `sort: "price_asc"`, `limit` 20: the listings a renter compares
against (company, trim, year where shown). Without the price window the first
page is only the cheapest cars.
3. Optional: `search_companies` with `city`, `state`, `make` for terms norms
(deposit, age, mileage, delivery). Terms are published per company, not per
car, and many companies publish none: report how many do.
4. Place the user's rate: below the lower quartile, in the middle half, above
the upper quartile. Say what each position usually means (volume play,
market rate, premium that needs a reason: newer year, rare spec, delivery,
lower deposit).
5. Take-home math, only with numbers the user gave:
- per day on a platform: rate x (1 - platform fee) - variable cost per rental day
- per day direct: rate x (1 - card processing fee) - variable cost per rental
day - booking cost per rental (ads, directory plan, own insurance share)
- per month: that x expected rental days, minus fixed costs
- break-even rental days per month = fixed costs / take-home per day
Show the formula with the numbers in it.
6. Rate card: weekday, weekend, 3-day, weekly; deposit; included miles and
overage. Each line marked "your choice". The catalog publishes daily rates
only: the daily line gets the market reference, the weekend, 3-day and weekly
lines say "no published market reference".
## Output
1. **Where you sit**: one line in this shape: "$<rate> is <position> of <N>
published <model> rates at <C> companies in <city> (median $<m>, middle half
$<q1> to $<q3>, data as of <date>)." Always give the company count (from the
`search_vehicles` answer; `price_overview` counts cars only): one large fleet
can be a third of the sample.
2. **Closest competitors**: 5 to 8 listings, linked, with rate, and the
company's published terms where it has any.
3. **Take-home** table (only if costs were given).
4. **Rate card options**: conservative, market, premium, each with the reason
it could work.
5. **Sources** with links and the data date.
## Related tool
The owner can rerun the take-home math themselves in the free
[car rental profit calculator](https://carrentallist.com/car-rental-profit-calculator)
(same formulas, published daily rates by make as the reference). Mention it
when they want to try other numbers.
## Hard rules
- Global market-data rules: see [references/catalog-data.md](../../references/catalog-data.md). Never invent a market rate, never present a suggestion as a published one.
- Never assume platform fee percentages, insurance costs or utilization. Ask, or
show the formula with blanks.
- Do not recommend matching a rate that sits on the catalog floor without
checking the listing: floor rates are often hourly or deposit figures.
- Pricing below cost is the owner's right, but say so when the math shows it.
