# Re-read the edit as a stranger
Before moving on, read what you just wrote as though you had not written it.
- Does the name still describe what the code does, or what it used to do?
- Is there a comment that is now a lie?
- Did the edit leave a variable, an import or a branch that nothing reaches?
This is the cheapest review there is, and it catches the class of mistake that
survives every other check: code that is correct and no longer means what it
says.
