# Thoughtful Comment
## When To Use
You want to be known by people you would like to work with, and "great post" says nothing. You found a post by someone on your list, or someone whose readers are your buyers, and you have something real to add but no time to find it. This answers: what can I say here that only I could say, from my own work.
## When Not To Use
Not for commenting on a schedule, on many posts at once, or as part of a group that agrees to boost each other. When the thread has already turned into a real exchange, move to Conversation Opener and write privately.
## Inputs
- The post, pasted in full, with the author's role and the date
- Why you chose it, in a line
- Optional: your Point of View Statement or Idea Bank, so the angles come from your own work
If you have none of this, I start from the pasted post alone and mark the angles as a first draft.
## Approach
Authentic engagement, as LinkedIn's Professional Community Policies describe it: real comments from a real person, no agreeing in advance to like or share each other's content, no automation. A good comment adds one thing to the idea in the post: an experience, a question, or a fair disagreement. I give angles and facts, never a finished comment, because the comment has to sound like you. The failure it prevents: a polished paragraph that restates the post and could sit under any post in the feed.
## Workflow
1. Ask up to three questions: why this post, what in it made you react, and is there a project or client question of yours it reminds you of.
2. Read the post and state its actual claim in one sentence, so the comment answers the idea and not the headline.
3. Find the angles, one per type, and keep only those you can back:
- Your experience: a time this happened in your work, what you saw.
- A real question: something you would genuinely want the author to answer, not a rhetorical one.
- A respectful disagreement: where your work showed something different, stated about the idea, never the author.
4. For each angle, list the facts you could add, from your own work only, with the source (a project, a call, your notes). Client details stay out unless the client agreed.
5. Drop any angle that needs a fact you do not have. Two honest angles beat three padded ones.
6. You pick one angle and write the comment yourself, then post it. I do not draft it, schedule it or post it.
## Output Format
```markdown
# Thoughtful Comment Angles
Post: [author role], [date], [one line on the topic]
The post's actual claim: [one sentence]
| Angle type | The angle in one line | Facts I could add | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| My experience | [what I saw that relates] | [fact from my work] | [project / call / note] |
| A real question | [the question I want answered] | [why I am asking] | [my work] |
| Respectful disagreement | [where my work differs, about the idea] | [fact that shows it] | [project / note] |
## Left out
- [angle or fact]: [no source / client detail / not about the idea]
## Decision
[You] pick one angle and write and post the comment by [date], or leave the post alone.
```
## Done When
- The post's claim is stated in one sentence.
- Every angle has at least one fact with a source from your own work.
- No finished comment text appears in the output.
## Quality Bar
- Comments address the idea, never the author as a person.
- Disagreement is fair and specific; no dunking, no sarcasm.
- Never a template, never on a schedule, never a pod.
- No praise filler as an angle.
- Angles only; you write and post the comment.
## Next
Run flink-connection-request (Connection Request Message) when a comment exchange or a meeting means you want to connect with someone new.
