# Slovakia payroll and social contributions, tax year 2026
> **Source-cited draft.** Built by Michael Cutajar and the OpenAccountants team from Act No. 461/2003 Coll. on social insurance, Act No. 580/2004 Coll. on health insurance, Act No. 595/2003 Coll. on income tax and Act No. 563/2009 Coll. (Tax Procedure Code), with Sociálna poisťovňa, VšZP and Financial Directorate pages, read on 2026-10-23 and supplemented with the primary-source checks dated 2026-10-27 below. No accountant has reviewed it. Do not run a payroll from it without review by a qualified Slovak professional.
Tax year: the calendar year. Currency: euro. Three bodies collect from a payroll: Sociálna poisťovňa (social insurance), the employee's own health insurer (VšZP, Dôvera or Union, supervised by ÚDZS) and the tax office (Finančná správa) for the wage tax advance. Each has its own registration, report and due date.

## Who this applies to
**Employers.** Any person or company that pays an employee is a social insurance payer and deducts the employee's share (Act 461/2003 §§ 128, 141(2)). It is also a health insurance payer and computes and pays health advances for each employee (Act 580/2004 §16(2)(a), (c), (4)). An employer resident in Slovakia, or a foreign one with a Slovak branch, is the tax payer (platiteľ dane) and withholds the monthly tax advance (Act 595/2003 §35(1)).
**Employees.** People in an employment relationship (pracovný pomer) and people on work agreements (dohody). There is no minimum assessment base for an employee's social insurance: the base is the pay actually accounted (Act 461/2003 §138(1); Sociálna poisťovňa, 2026 tables, note 1). The employer must still pay at least the minimum wage under labour law: EUR 915 a month from 1 January 2026 ([Ministry of Labour, minimum wage 2026](https://www.employment.gov.sk/sk/uvodna-stranka/informacie-media/aktuality/historicky-narast-minimalnej-mzdy-je-realitou-roku-2026-je-minimalna-mzda-vo-vyske-915-eur.html)).
**Self-employed (SZČO): status and compulsory coverage are separate.** A person aged 18 or over has SZČO status under §5 through the relevant business authorisation or, for work needing no authorisation such as an artist/author, the statutory declaration. Status alone does not establish compulsory insurance. The January 2026 SP overview's account of income-independent coverage was superseded from 1 July 2026 by [Act 122/2026, Art.I points 1–3/9 and Art.II](https://static.slov-lex.sk/pdf/SK/ZZ/2026/122/ZZ_2026_122_20260701.pdf), which amended §21 and added §293gnb. Apply the current [binding Act 461/2003, §§21/293gma/293gnb](https://static.slov-lex.sk/pdf/SK/ZZ/2003/461/ZZ_2003_461_20260901.pdf), not the superseded overview, to coverage:
- **First entry or return after more than 60 months.** Section 21(1)/(3) normally starts compulsory sickness/pension insurance on the first day of the sixth calendar month after the authorisation month. For licence-free work, count from the declared start month, but no earlier than the sixth following month after SP receives the declaration. A first authorisation on 15 January 2026 therefore starts coverage 1 July 2026; one on 15 February starts 1 August. Exactly 60 months since the last activity ended belongs to the returning branch below, not the exception for a gap longer than 60 months.
- **Return within 60 months, including exactly 60, or resumption after interruption.** Section 21(3) starts on renewed authorisation or the declared activity start, no earlier than declaration delivery; interruption resumes the day after it ends. First apply §21(4)'s exception: use the 1 July assessment, or 1 October for an extended return deadline, preceding the relevant return/resumption and the preceding calendar year's business income. Coverage does not start under this returning rule if that income does not exceed 10.5 times the adult subsistence amount at 1 January of the income year, including the specified low-income non-filer. For 2025 income assessed in 2026 that threshold is EUR 2876.90: EUR 2876.90 does not exceed it; EUR 2876.91 does. Non-filing because there was no SZČO activity in that prior year is a different fact and does not itself qualify for this low-income exception. SP's current worked case of activity in January–June 2026, none in 2025, then a return 1 August 2026 starts coverage on that August return.
- **Annual starts and ends.** Under §21(5), coverage also starts 1 July following a year above the 10.5-times income threshold, or 1 October with an extended filing deadline. A July start also applies where the person was not SZČO in the prior year, except while §21(1)'s initial waiting period is still running. Conversely, coverage ends 30 June, or 30 September for the extended deadline, where prior-year income does not exceed the threshold, including the statutory low-income non-filer. Ending the authorisation/declared activity remains a separate end route under §21(2). A supplementary return or tax assessment changes coverage under §21(6) only if it affects current insurance, from the first day of the following calendar month. Compute each income year's 10.5-times threshold using its own 1 January adult subsistence amount and income-tax rounding (§21(7)); EUR 2876.90 is the 2025-income threshold, not a permanent annual amount.
- **January–June 2026 transition.** For §293gma(1)'s defined pre 2026 population, the old law applies through 30 June 2026, except where more than 60 months elapsed since the last activity ended. Under that old assessment,2024 income above EUR 8580 started insurance 1 July 2025, or 1 October 2025 with an extended deadline. This does not preserve the old EUR 8580 coverage threshold for the July 2026 assessment.
- **July/October 2026 transition.** Section 293gnb, rather than superseded §293gma(2)/(3)/(5), governs from 1 July. For the defined transition population uninsured on 30 June and still SZČO on 1 July, coverage starts 1 July if 2025 income exceeds EUR 2876.90 or there was no 2025 SZČO activity. With an extended 2025 return deadline, an uninsured person still SZČO on 1 October starts then if 2025 income exceeds that threshold. For someone insured on 30 June, a non-extended case continues after June only if 2025 income exceeds the threshold; an extended case continues July–September while still SZČO, retains the June base for those months, and continues after September if still SZČO on 1 October and 2025 income exceeds the threshold. The annual low-income end rule also applies. Do not automatically charge the special base to every low-income licence holder.
The [current SP July 2026 calculator instructions and returning/new-entrant cases](https://www.socpoist.sk/nastroje-sluzby/kalkulacky/kalkulacky-pre-szco/kalkulacka-na-informativny-vypocet-poistneho-pre-5) and [SP's 8 October 2026 assessment notice](https://www.socpoist.sk/news/v-oktobri-2026-dostane-takmer-92-tisic-zivnostnikov-szco-od-socialnej-poistovne-oznamenia-o) confirm the distinction. First decide whether and from when insurance exists; only then compute its base. For an ordinary continuing insured person assessed on 2025 income, EUR 2876.91–9144 inclusive takes the 2026 special base; EUR 9144.01 and above takes the income-derived route with its applicable floor/ceiling. Initial new-entrant coverage under §21(1) uses the special base when the income-derived route does not apply, subject to subsequent annual reassessment.
SZČO health-advance duties begin with the business, subject to the concurrent-employment/state-insured exceptions and the below-EUR-3 rule described in the base method (Act 580/2004 §16(2)(b), (8), (9)).
**Not covered here.** Voluntary insurance (dobrovoľne poistená osoba), the special scheme for municipal police, and health insurance on dividends. See `slovakia-pit` for an SZČO's annual return.

**Rounding.** Social insurance: each assessment base and each separate contribution is rounded down to the cent (Act 461/2003 §138(14); 2026 tables, closing note). Health: bases and advances are rounded down to the cent (Act 580/2004 §13(17), §16(1)). Income tax: amounts are rounded half up to two decimals (Act 595/2003 §47).
## The taxable base
**Employee social base.** Pay from the work, except income that is not taxable or is exempt from income tax, and except employer contributions to supplementary pension saving (Act 461/2003 §138(1)). The income-tax exemption does not remove qualifying registered-trainer income from the social base: that income is included before its separate trainer deduction. For an employee's qualifying legal relationship as a trainer entered in the register of natural persons in sport, §138c gives a EUR 300 monthly deduction, limited to that relationship's assessment base if lower. Employer accident and guarantee insurance use the employee base before that deduction (§138(6)); do not reduce those two employer bases by the trainer deduction. A profit share paid to an employee who holds no capital is included. The base is capped at EUR 16,764 a month; employer accident insurance runs on the full pay (§138(10)). For remuneration for 2026 periods, the employee and employer pay social insurance on assessment-base income accounted during sickness, maternity or care leave: the old employee exclusion periods are abolished. If pay is accounted after 31 December 2025 for a period before 1 January 2026 containing the then-excluded days, adjust the base under the law effective through 31 December 2025, as the authority's transition instruction requires (Sociálna poisťovňa, changes from 1 January 2026, item 26). Where someone has several jobs, social contributions run from the highest base down (§138(12)).
**Partial-month social insurance.** The monthly figures above assume a full contribution month. If an employee's sickness, pension and unemployment insurance lasts only part of the calendar month, adjust the §138(9) ceiling for the contribution days. For a compulsorily insured SZČO, adjust the applicable income-derived or special base and its applicable minimum/maximum under §138(2), (3), (8), (9) when insurance lasts only part of the month or §140 excludes contribution days. Divide the applicable monthly base by the actual calendar days in that month, round the daily base down to cents, then multiply by the days for which contributions are payable; round each separate fund contribution down to cents. This does not create an employee social minimum or restore the employee sickness/maternity exclusion abolished in 2026. The employer base follows §138(5)/(6), with the separate §138(10) ceiling and uncapped accident insurance. For concurrent activities, §138(12) gives employee income priority over compulsory SZČO income; among employee bases, take the highest first and, if equal, the insurance that started earlier, subject to the aggregate §138(9) ceiling. For example, the authority's May 2026 SZČO case uses EUR 1200 ÷31 → EUR 38.70 daily, then ×20 payable days = EUR 774 base and EUR 256.57 across the four funds, rather than prorating the final monthly payment ([Act 461/2003 §138(12)–(14)](https://static.slov-lex.sk/static/SK/ZZ/2003/461/20260901.html#paragraf-138); [SP partial-month instructions and worked case](https://www.socpoist.sk/socialne-poistenie/platenie-poistneho/poistne-szco-dpo-po-prerusenom-poisteni), read 2026-10-27).
**Employee health base.** Employment income under the health law's own §10b and §13(1), with no ceiling (Act 580/2004; VšZP, employer page). The employer's 11% runs on the gross before any deductible amount (§13(4), §16(2)(c)). Start with the EUR 45.45 combined minimum only for a full month without excluded days. Under §16a(2), reduce that minimum proportionately for calendar days when the person is self-employed, state-insured under §11(7)/(8), disabled, declared missing, or not an employee. Count each excluded calendar day once. Compare the reduced minimum with the actual employee-plus-employer advance, after the applicable deductible amount; only a positive shortfall increases the employee share (§16a(3)/(4)). An employee with concurrent employers can elect not to apply that shortfall increase and must notify the employer within eight days of the employment/concurrency starting, and within eight days of a change. The employee also communicates excluded-day status where another body is not required to notify it; retain the prescribed written notice (§16a(5)). With EUR 200 pay, no deductible amount and no excluded days, ordinary advances are EUR 10 employee plus EUR 22 employer; the EUR 13.45 shortfall increases the employee advance to EUR 23.45. If the same person is state-insured for the entire month, the minimum reduces to zero: actual advances remain EUR 10 and EUR 22, with no minimum shortfall. State-insured status does not itself erase the contributions on employment ([Health Act §16a](https://static.slov-lex.sk/static/SK/ZZ/2004/580/20260701.html#paragraf-16a)).
**Wage tax advance.** Taxable wage = gross taxable pay less the employee's social and health contributions, less EUR 497.23 if the employee has signed the declaration (vyhlásenie) with this employer (Act 595/2003 §35(1), (4), §36(6)). Only one employer may hold that declaration. The spouse allowance and pension savings deductions wait for the annual reconciliation (§35(1)(b)). Apply the monthly bands to the taxable wage, then reduce the advance by the child tax bonus (§35(2), (5)).
**Child tax bonus in payroll.** Granted only by the employer holding the declaration. It is capped at the §33(6) share of the month's employment tax base (gross less employee contributions), and the §33(11) taper applies to that monthly base (§35(5)). If the bonus exceeds the advance, the employer pays the difference from the tax it withheld for all staff. If that is not enough, it pays from its own money and claims the balance from the tax office after the quarter (§35(7)).
**Net pay** = gross − employee social − employee health − tax advance after bonus. **Employer cost** = gross + employer social (with accident) + employer health.
**SZČO social base** (Act 461/2003 §138(2), (3), (8), (9) and (14)). First establish coverage under §21 and the 2026 transition above; income at or below EUR 9144 alone does not establish insurance. Keep the income-derived cycle separate from the calendar-year limits:
1. For the cycle beginning July 2026, or October 2026 with an extended filing deadline, test 2025 business income (not profit) against EUR 9,144: 50% of the 2024 general assessment base of EUR 18,288. Exactly EUR 9,144 takes the special-base route; income above it takes the 1.486 route. For that route, take the business tax base before social and health contributions, make the statutory adjustments for income and expenses excluded from the assessment base, divide by 12 and by 1.486, and round down to the cent. This income-derived figure runs July to June, or October to September. With an extended return deadline, July–September retains the base used through June (§138(3)).
2. Apply the minimum and maximum valid for the month being paid. During 2026 the ordinary minimum is EUR 914.40 and the ceiling EUR 16,764. Those amounts reset on 1 January using the general assessment base from two years before the contribution year; the income-derived July/October figure continues until its cycle ends. Do not carry the 2026 floor or ceiling into January 2027, or retest the cycle's income threshold merely because January arrives.
3. If the income-derived route does not apply, including a new entrant once compulsory insurance starts, use the special base: 26% of one twelfth of the general assessment base from two years before the contribution year. It is EUR 396.24 in 2026 and also resets in January. The 2026 annual reference wage is EUR 1,524: `1,524 × 60% = 914.40`, `1,524 × 11 = 16,764`, and `1,524 × 26% = 396.24`. Future-year amounts require that year's reference wage and law, not reuse of these figures.
Each component (4.4%, 18%, 6%, 4.75%) is rounded down separately. Apply the partial-month social method above where relevant. The existing transition through June 2026 above still applies.
**SZČO health advance.** 16% of the business tax base from two years earlier (2024 for 2026), taken before contributions paid, divided by the months of business in that year and by 1.486. The ordinary minimum is EUR 121.92, or EUR 60.96 with a disability, where §16(8)(a) applies. The insurer states the advance in the annual reconciliation. For an SZČO who is concurrently an employee or state-insured under §11(7), use the calculated §16(2)(b) advance without the ordinary minimum (§16(6), (8)(e)); that concurrent person need not remit an advance below EUR 3 (§16(9)). Exactly EUR 3 does not meet the below-EUR-3 exception. This concerns advances, not an assumed zero annual reconciliation.

Payment interest needs a separate payment failure | Act 595/2003 §39(11); Act 563/2009 §154(1)(j), §155(1)(e), (4), §156 |
| Employer does not do a tax reconciliation that an employee validly asked for | Fine of at least EUR 15 per employee, at most EUR 30,000 in total for the year | Act 595/2003 §38(9) |
| Hlásenie filed late (it counts as a tax return) | Fine EUR 100 to 30,000; a range fine is not imposed on a first breach | Act 595/2003 §39(11); Act 563/2009 §154(1)(a), §155(1)(a), (4) |
| Tax understated in a return or Hlásenie, found by the tax office | 3 x the ECB main rate a year, at least 10%, on the extra tax | Act 563/2009 §155(1)(f), (5) |
**Monthly Prehľad: test the filing duty and sanction separately.** A payer that paid employment income files the monthly summary under ITA §39(9)(a)/§49(2), even if no wage advance is payable; §39(12) supplies the no-employment-income-paid exception. The ordinary filing deadline is the end of the following month. The special §39(11) sanction route applies only if the required summary was not filed within **five calendar days after that deadline** and that month carried either an obligation to remit wage-tax advances or a request for the specified child bonus, interest-paid bonus or employment premium. If the fifth day is a weekend or non-working day, move to the next working day. This tolerance affects the filing sanction, not the wage-advance payment date ([ITA §§39/49](https://static.slov-lex.sk/static/SK/ZZ/2003/595/20260101.html#paragraf-39); [FS monthly guidance and FAQ13](https://podpora.financnasprava.sk/879943-Pod%C3%A1vanie-mesa%C4%8Dn%C3%BDch-preh%C4%BEadov)).
Classify this monthly failure under TC §154(1)(j)/§155(1)(e), rather than treating the monthly summary as the annual Hlásenie tax return. The **EUR100–10,000 is a range**, not an automatic EUR100 charge. Check the offence history: §155(4) suppresses the range fine for the first relevant breach, with the tax and customs offices assessing the individual offence categories separately. A new month or different form does not itself create another first chance. The office considers gravity, duration, consequences and the tax-reliability index; under §155(16), it can repeat an equal fine if the fine did not remedy continuing non-compliance. The [FS first-breach explanation](https://podpora.financnasprava.sk/989535-Druh%C3%A1-%C5%A1anca) supports that category treatment. A [published Bratislava tax-office decision dated28October2025](https://evo.isepvo.sk/evoportal/sk-sk/Public/DocumentSearch/GetAttachment?attId=1000515050&docId=1000295789) expressly applies the j/e classification to a late monthly Prehľad. It is an individual administrative application, with finality unverified; its historical EUR30–3,000 range is superseded by the current 2026 statute, not a current tariff.
For July2026, the ordinary filing deadline is31August. The fifth day,5September, is Saturday, so filing by **7September2026** is within the sanction-free tolerance. Filing on8September is outside it: if the financial/request gateway is met, a first relevant breach still has no range fine; a later relevant breach is assessed within EUR100–10,000. If the financial/request gateway is absent, do not assert that this special trigger is met or erase a separate filing duty. These are filing-fine outcomes, not extensions of payment time.
**Wage-advance interest.** Establish the remittance due date separately under ITA §35(6), ordinarily five days after paying, remitting or crediting taxable wages unless the office granted a different date. TC §156(2) uses four times the ECB rate on the day after the advance should have been remitted, with a15% annual floor. Count from the next day after due date through payment inclusive, splitting calendar years where necessary. Section156(5) ends the wage-advance calculation at payment or, if still unpaid, the annual reconciliation day, and in any event no later than the applicable annual-return deadline; retain the general four-year maximum as well. Round down to ten eurocents under §161; §156(6)(b) excludes interest of EUR5 or less per relevant case. A late form with advances remitted on time creates no payment interest merely from filing late. Conversely, filing within the tolerance or first-breach fine relief does not waive interest on an actual late/short remittance ([TC §§156/161](https://static.slov-lex.sk/static/SK/ZZ/2009/563/20260901.html#paragraf-156)).
## Cross-border points
- **EU coordination and posting.** Within the EU, EEA and Switzerland a person covered by the coordination rules is subject to one country's social security law at a time. The ordinary rule is the country of work (Regulation 883/2004 Art.11(1), (3)(a)). An employee posted from Slovakia stays under Slovak law under Art.12(1) only if the expected posting does not exceed 24 months, the employer normally carries out substantial business in Slovakia beyond internal administration, the employee works on its behalf and the direct employment relationship continues throughout, and the employee is not sent to replace another posted person. A short assignment alone does not satisfy those conditions. Keep evidence of the employer's real Slovak activity and turnover, contracts and workforce, and its continuing authority over the nature of work, pay, discipline and termination. For an employee recruited for posting, also establish the immediately preceding Slovak coverage; the current application asks about at least one month.
The employer and employee apply sufficiently before departure to the Sociálna poisťovňa branch holding the employer's register. That branch checks the conditions and issues PD A1, which the employer gives to the employee. The current nine-page [official application and instructions](https://socpoist.sk/api/idsp/download/cc10770f-2166-45b6-a4c4-60423faec92a) directly confirm the issuer and evidence. Its narrowly described objective-replacement cases (for example death or long illness, with aggregate posting no longer than 24 months) need the branch's assessment; routine rotation on the same job is not a fresh posting. Keep the conditions satisfied throughout and notify changes. An expected posting beyond 24 months requires the separate Art.16 agreed-exception route rather than an assumed Art.12 entitlement. Regular work in two or more states instead requires an Art.13 applicable-legislation determination; do not classify it automatically as successive postings. A valid foreign A1 establishing foreign legislation for a worker posted to Slovakia means no Slovak social insurance for its covered period (Arts.11–13; official application, pp.5–9).
- **Foreign employer.** A registered Slovak branch is not the sole wage-tax payer test. Apply ITA §48(1) first: a foreign person can be a payer because of a Slovak permanent establishment or employment in Slovakia for more than 183 days, continuously or cumulatively in any twelve consecutive months, with the specified §16(1)(c) service-provider and diplomatic-office qualifications; §48(1)(b) supplies its separate source-income ground. In an economic-employer case under §5(4), apply §48(2)'s special allocation: the foreign person is not the payer, except that a foreign person with a Slovak organisational branch is a payer to the extent of the wages it provides. Only after establishing that the employer is not a payer apply §35(10)/(11): a resident employee pays their own advances by the end of the following month, and a non-resident follows §35(11), including its from-start treatment where the contract shows more than 183 days. Retain the PE, actual employment-day history, contract and economic-employer facts ([ITA §§35 and 48](https://static.slov-lex.sk/static/SK/ZZ/2003/595/20260101.html#paragraf-48)).
- **Pay taxed abroad.** The employer withholds no advance on pay that is taxed abroad (Act 595/2003 §35(8)). The tax bonus needs at least 90% of total income from Slovak sources (§33(9)). Treaty conditions and documents are in `sk-cross-border`.
## Worked examples
### Example 1: employee, EUR 2,500 a month, one child aged 10
Jana works full time under an employment contract. Her gross pay is EUR 2,500 a month. She signed the declaration with this employer, has one child aged 10, no disability, and earns nothing else.
Her pay is below EUR 16,764, so the social base is EUR 2,500. Employee social is 9.4% = EUR 235.00. Employee health is 5% = EUR 125.00. The taxable wage is 2,500 − 360 − 497.23 = EUR 1,642.77. That is below EUR 3,665.28, so the advance is 19% = EUR 312.13. The child bonus of EUR 100 is below the cap of 29% of EUR 2,140 (EUR 620.60). Her monthly base is below the EUR 2,286 taper point (EUR 27,432 / 12), so the bonus is not reduced. The advance falls to EUR 212.13. Net pay is EUR 1,927.87.
The employer pays 24.4% social (EUR 610.00), 0.8% accident (EUR 20.00) and 11% health (EUR 275.00). Employer cost is EUR 3,405.00. Sociálna poisťovňa receives EUR 865.00 on payday, the health insurer EUR 400.00, and the tax office EUR 212.13 within 5 days.

### Example 2: self-employed (SZČO) contributions from July 2026
Peter has been self-employed for years. His 2025 return shows business income of EUR 48,000 and a tax base of EUR 21,000, after deducting EUR 7,500 of social and health contributions he paid in 2025. His 2024 return showed a tax base of EUR 24,000 before contributions, for 12 months of business. He has no extended filing deadline and no disability.
His 2025 income is above EUR 9,144, so the 1.486 method applies. The tax base before contributions is 21,000 + 7,500 = EUR 28,500. That gives 28,500 / 12 = EUR 2,375, and 2,375 / 1.486 = EUR 1,598.25 (rounded down). This is between EUR 914.40 and EUR 16,764. For July–December 2026 he pays EUR 70.32 sickness, EUR 287.68 old age, EUR 95.89 disability and EUR 75.91 reserve fund: EUR 529.80 a month, each due by the 8th of the next month. His EUR 1,598.25 income-derived figure continues through June 2027, but from January it must be checked against the 2027 floor and ceiling; the 2026 payment is not promised for those months.
His 2026 health advance uses 2024: 24,000 / 12 / 1.486 = EUR 1,345.89, and 16% gives EUR 215.34 a month. That is above the EUR 121.92 minimum.
The edge case: with the same continuing activity and ordinary filing deadline, if his 2025 business income had been EUR 2876.91–9144 inclusive, including exactly EUR 9144, he would pay on the EUR 396.24 special base during July–December 2026, EUR 131.34 a full month, rather than the EUR 914.40 ordinary minimum. At EUR 2876.90 or below, his annual coverage ends 30 June under §21(5), rather than automatically charging that special base; a genuinely new entrant or a person with no prior-year SZČO status must instead follow the separate start rules above. The special base itself resets in January 2027.

## Ask the client first
1. **Contract type for each worker.** Employment contract, work agreement (dohoda) or self-employed. This changes the unemployment and support rates, the EUR 200 deduction and the health deductible amount.
2. **Has the employee signed the tax declaration with you, and which children (with ages) are claimed?** Only one employer gives the EUR 497.23 allowance and the tax bonus.
3. **Exact disability/pension category, award date, retirement age and second-pillar status.** The health disability rates need the statutory qualifying status. Social disability premiums do not apply after an old-age or early-old-age pension award, or to a service-pension recipient who has reached retirement age; the employer follows the same exclusion (§128(3)). Unemployment insurance separately excludes old-age/early-old-age recipients, disability-pension recipients with more than 70% loss of earning capacity, and disability-pension recipients who reached retirement age (§19(3)(b)). Do not treat every pensioner as exempt from both branches. Check a work agreement's actual §4 insurance category rather than automatically applying the ordinary employee total; a second-pillar saver's 4% contribution is allocated to their pension fund ([Social Insurance Act §§4, 19 and 128](https://static.slov-lex.sk/static/SK/ZZ/2003/461/20260901.html)).
4. **Your payday.** Social and health payments fall due on it; the tax advance 5 days later.
5. **For an SZČO: the date the licence started, any licence that ended in the last 60 months, the last two returns (income, tax base, contributions deducted) and any extended filing deadline.** These set the start date and both bases.
6. **Any work abroad, A1 form or foreign employer, including a Slovak PE, branch, employment days in each rolling twelve-month period and economic-employer arrangements.** These facts determine the applicable country and wage-tax payer.
