# Grenada annual stamp tax

## Scope and source status

Source-cited draft checked 22 October 2026. Annual stamp tax concerns business gross receipts, not a tax on a property-transfer instrument. IRD's substantive page was accessible as indexed official text but returned HTTP 500 directly. The dated 2026 extension notice was readable as an official PDF. Direct verification of the governing law remains pending.

## Base and rates

IRD identifies the Annual Stamp Tax Act 36/1992 and bases a year's tax on the preceding year's gross receipts. Its current presentation gives 0.5% below EC$300,000 of gross receipts and 0.7% at EC$300,000 or above, with the first EC$36,000 exempt and a stated EC$100 minimum. The 0.7% rate is labelled effective 2018; do not reuse the page's separate historic 0.75% example. [IRD annual stamp tax guidance](https://www.ird.gd/taxes/annual-stamp-tax).

Choose the rate using gross receipts **before** subtracting the exemption. This is a whole-base rate selection, not a marginal two-band calculation.

## Worked examples

Assume an ordinary liable business with no special relief, and established previous-year gross receipts:

| Gross receipts | Rate | Base after 36,000 exemption | Calculated tax |
|---|---:|---:|---:|
| 200,000 | 0.5% | 164,000 | 820 |
| 300,000 | 0.7% | 264,000 | 1,848 |
| 400,000 | 0.7% | 364,000 | 2,548 |

All examples exceed the stated minimum. The treatment of businesses with no receipts or receipts below the exemption, and the minimum's interaction with statutory exemptions, has not been resolved. Do not extrapolate a universal EC$100 liability to every entity.

## Calendar and 2026 exception

IRD's standing guidance gives 31 March for returns and describes payment in nine monthly instalments from April through December. [IRD annual stamp tax guidance](https://www.ird.gd/taxes/annual-stamp-tax).

A [31 March 2026 official notice](https://www.finance.gd/docs/2026/PRESS_RELEASE-IRD_Extension.pdf) extends filing and payment for annual stamp tax, personal income tax and corporate income tax to **30 April 2026**. Do not roll that date forward into 2027. The notice does not spell out a revised nine-instalment schedule; reconcile the taxpayer's payment obligations with IRD rather than inventing one.

## Working-paper checks and exclusions

Reconcile the prior-year receipts schedule to accounts, bank receipts and identified non-trading income. Document the statutory inclusion or exclusion of each receipt; gross receipts must not be replaced with accounting profit. Confirm rate selection before deducting the exemption and keep return and payment evidence separately.

Business exemptions, capital receipts, special hurricane relief and penalty computations need further legal research. This draft does not claim that every business is liable or that all tax-base rules have been verified. Independent review remains required before release or filing reliance.
