Rust Patterns

Rust idioms — ownership-first design; types encode invariants (newtype pattern for UserId / Cents / etc.); errors as values (Result<T, E> + thiserror for libs + anyhow for apps); enums for closed sets (exhaustive match); builders for many-optional inputs; protocol-style traits for ports (dependency inversion); DI via struct composition (Arc<dyn Trait>); async/await + tokio with structured concurrency (try_join! / JoinSet); no .unwrap() outside tests (use ? or expect with reason); no panic! in...

## Purpose

Routing table for the Rust discipline. Every rule, code example, citation and
anti-pattern lives in `references/` — read the row that matches the work rather
than the whole surface, because this skill is `paths:`-gated and whatever stays
here is paid on every edit to every `*.rs` / `Cargo.toml` file.

## Routing table

| Row | Read this | It holds |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Coding style** | [`references/coding-style.md`](references/coding-style.md) | Core principle · Naming · Ownership + borrowing · Error handling · Modules + visibility · Idioms · Async (tokio) · Required `Cargo.toml` setup · `rustfmt.toml` · Required tooling · Cross-references |
| **Hooks + CI gates** | [`references/hooks.md`](references/hooks.md) | Pre-commit gates · CI workflow · `deny.toml` (the cargo-deny policy) · `rust-toolchain.toml` · Cross-references |
| **No-discards extension** | [`references/no-discards.md`](references/no-discards.md) | The 15 banned patterns — `unwrap()`/`expect()` · `let _ =` · `panic!`/`todo!` · ignored iterator values · undocumented `unsafe` · unjustified `#[allow(...)]` · `clone()` to dodge the borrow checker · hot-path allocations · `mem::forget` · lossy `as` casts · `println!` in product code · hardcoded credentials · uninjected clocks · mutable statics · range-loop discards. Plus required `Cargo.toml` lints and the verification block |
| **Architecture patterns** | [`references/patterns.md`](references/patterns.md) | Module + workspace layout · Newtype · Enums for closed sets · Builder · Traits for ports · DI via struct composition · Async (tokio idioms) · Reuse-first · Anti-patterns 1-4 |
| **Security** | [`references/security.md`](references/security.md) | OWASP A02 crypto · A03 injection · A06 vulnerable components · A07 authentication · A10 SSRF · `unsafe` discipline · Secrets · Required tooling |
| **Testing** | [`references/testing.md`](references/testing.md) | Test layout · Property-based (proptest) · Async testing · HTTP mocking · Snapshot (insta) · Mocking traits (mockall) · Coverage gates · Hard rules 1-5 |

Start with **Coding style** when the work is a plain `*.rs` edit; add the other
rows only as the change reaches them.

Caveman

Terse caveman voice: answer first, fluff gone, every technical fact kept. Use for /caveman, "caveman mode", "talk like caveman", "be brief", "less tokens". Stays on until "stop caveman" or "normal mode".

Hyperplan

Adversarial multi-agent planning skill. Self-orchestrates 5 hostile category members (unspecified-low, unspecified-high, deep, ultrabrain, artistry) via team-mode for ruthless cross-critique debate, distills only the defensible insights, then MANDATORILY hands the distilled insight bundle to the `plan` agent for executable plan formalization. Use when planning needs maximum rigor and surfacing of weak assumptions, blind spots, and over-engineering. Triggers: 'hyperplan', 'hpp', '/hyperplan', ...

Writing Skills

Create and manage Claude Code skills in HASH repository following Anthropic best practices. Use when creating new skills, modifying skill-rules.json, understanding trigger patterns, working with hooks, debugging skill activation, or implementing progressive disclosure. Covers skill structure, YAML frontmatter, trigger types (keywords, intent patterns), UserPromptSubmit hook, and the 500-line rule. Includes validation and debugging with SKILL_DEBUG. Examples include rust-error-stack, cargo-dep...

Mcp Code Execution

Routes multi-tool workflows through MCP servers for large datasets and pipelines. Use when Bash tool overhead is limiting throughput on data-heavy tasks.

catchup

Recovers the conversation and failed tool calls of a previous Codex, Amp, Claude Code, Antigravity, Cline, Copilot CLI, Cursor, DeepSeek Harness, Grok Build, Kimi, OpenCode, Pi Agent, or ZCode session. Use when the user says "catch up", "what did the last session do", "get me up to speed", "I switched agents", asks to recover/summarize a previous session before continuing, or asks to diagnose or report a catchup failure. Do NOT use for the current conversation, git history, or any non-agent log.
