# Competitor Profiling
**Scope**: direct competition (same problem, same customer) / indirect (same problem, different solution) / substitutes (different problem) / potential entrants. Strategy built on direct competitors only fails — scan all 4 types.
Profile fields: one-line positioning, ICP, pricing & plans, channels, traffic scale, review weaknesses (1–3★ reviews = our opportunity), releases & job postings in the last 6 months (strategy signals).
**Positioning map**: pick the 2 axes customers actually compare on and place players in 4 quadrants. Choose axes from customer language in reviews and communities (never from your own framing).
Judgment: 3+ weaknesses pointing in the same direction → a clear gap. New releases overlapping our roadmap → re-prioritize. Every figure needs a source URL + retrieval date.
Where to collect review weaknesses: app store 1–3★ reviews, low-rated G2/Capterra reviews, Reddit/HN complaint threads. "Why they leave" is stronger strategic intel than "why they buy". Competitor job postings are leading indicators of new market entry (and mirror your own moat level as well).
Reading the positioning map: 3+ players clustered in one quadrant → red ocean — move to an adjacent quadrant or probe a "low price + one specific feature" micro-position. Plot our own position by customer perception, not self-claim.
## Output
4-type competition map, competitor profile table (pricing, channels, strengths, weaknesses, signals), positioning map, top 3 capturable gaps + response strategy for each.
