Before reporting sift-light absent, check the complete runtime registry, including ALL_TOOLS deferred entries. Unexpanded does not mean absent; call failures are connection/capability failures.
Use exact pattern searches for names and error text; files + query for unknown filenames; anyOf/allOf for several literal conditions. Use applicable structural modes for symbols and relationships. Select concept/hybrid only when semantic recall is needed and enabled.
