# Structured writing

## Overview

Create coherent writing by deciding audience, purpose, evidence, and structure
before polishing sentences. Preserve the author's intent and never invent facts,
citations, quotations, or metrics to fill a gap.

## When to Use

Use for articles, reports, essays, guides, documentation, scripts, newsletters,
or substantial rewrites that need a deliberate narrative structure.

## Workflow

1. Confirm the audience, desired effect, form, scope, voice, length, and factual
   constraints. Identify supplied material and open evidence gaps.
2. Write a one-sentence controlling idea, then create an outline where every
   section advances that idea and has a clear reader question to answer.
3. Map claims and examples to sources or mark placeholders before drafting.
   Remove unsupported claims that are not essential.
4. Draft for logical continuity and concrete meaning. Use headings and
   transitions to reveal the argument, not to decorate it.
5. Read the complete draft for structure before line editing. Reorder, combine,
   or cut sections that repeat or do not serve the intended reader outcome.
6. Deliver the draft with unresolved factual questions, intentional voice
   decisions, and the next revision target.

## Verification

- [ ] Audience, purpose, voice, and intended outcome are explicit.
- [ ] Each section advances the controlling idea without repetition.
- [ ] Claims, quotations, and metrics are sourced or visibly unresolved.
- [ ] The draft uses the requested form and constraints.

## Red Flags

- Polishing prose before the argument or structure is sound.
- Inventing illustrative facts that look real.
- Generic filler that could appear in any document.
