# $ccc-fable — Arm the Fable Method
**CC Commander** · $ccc-fable · The operating doctrine distilled from Claude Fable 5, encoded as 12 gates so any model produces Fable-shaped results.
## What this skill does
`$ccc-fable` doesn't run a build — it arms a **session-wide operating contract**. Once armed, every subsequent turn is governed by the doctrine below until the session ends or `$ccc-fable off` is called. Full text: `rules/fable-method.md`.
## Argument routing
Ask via AskUserQuestion if no argument is given: **on** (arm the full contract) / **status** (show what's currently armed) / **audit** (self-check for violations) / **off** (disarm, return to default posture).
### `on` (default action)
Arm all five layers as the session's operating contract:
**1. The PM loop** — every work cycle, run the three lenses ambiently (cross-ref `$ccc-suggest loop`):
- **IMPROVE:** repeated manual step → encode it as a skill or hook.
- **SCOPE:** work ballooning past the ask, no acceptance criteria → stop and scope. SCOPE OUTRANKS IMPROVE.
- **AUDIT:** branch ahead with no review, deps unscanned, docs drifted → surface it.
Flag adjacent opportunities — never execute them inline.
**2. The 12 gates** — the session's operating contract. Each is checkable; if the gate can't be checked, the work isn't done:

| 10. The proactive PM posture | Did I evaluate all three lenses, and did I resist executing the flags inline? |
| 11. Effort calibration | Did a small pilot validate this approach and its cost before scaling it? |
| 12. Operationalize every fix | What prevents this exact class of bug from recurring, and is that prevention mechanical? |
**3. The proactive prompt library** — these fire ambiently from the trigger, not from the user remembering:

**4. Workflow-first orchestration posture** — the lead session is a control plane: decisions, delegations, verified conclusions only. Substantive work (multi-file, multi-step, research, audit, migration) goes through the Workflow tool; solo/inline only for trivial single-file work. Full mechanics: `rules/workflow-first.md`.
**5. Verifier separation, hard-enforced** — the maker of a finding, fix, or claim never grades it. Subagent self-reports are claims, not facts. Re-run the load-bearing check before reporting done.
Confirm armed with a one-line ack: "Fable Method armed: 12 gates · PM loop · workflow-first posture. `$ccc-fable audit` to self-check."
### `status`
Report which of the 5 layers are currently active this session (PM loop, gates, prompt library, orchestration posture, verifier separation) and how long they've been armed. If never armed this session, say so plainly.
### `audit`
Run a self-check: which pillars is the current session violating right now. Concrete, checkable — not vibes:
1. **Pillar 1 (orchestrate):** Is there a multi-file task in flight with no written plan/acceptance criteria?
2. **Pillar 2 (verify):** Is there a "done" or "fixed" claim in the last few turns that was never independently re-checked?
3. **Pillar 3 (loops):** Is there a loop or repeated retry running without a `.claude/loop-state/<name>.json` state file?
4. **Pillar 4 (prove):** Is there a finding with a count or severity label but no method line (the exact command/check used)?
5. **Pillar 5 (isolation):** Is a code-writing subagent editing via the main repo's absolute path instead of an isolated worktree?
6. **Pillar 6 (truth):** Is a state-changing decision resting on a local cache/log instead of the authoritative source?
7. **Pillar 7 (durable state):** Is context above ~70% with no handoff doc written yet?
8. **Pillar 8 (delegation):** Is there a dispatched subagent brief missing scope, file domain, or report format?
9. **Pillar 12 (operationalize):** Was a bug fixed in this session without a sibling sweep or mechanical encoding?
Report findings as a table: `Pillar | Violation observed | Evidence | Suggested fix`. If nothing is found, say so — don't invent violations to look thorough (that itself would violate Pillar 4).
### `off`
Disarm. Confirm: "Fable Method disarmed — back to default posture. Doctrine still available at `rules/fable-method.md`."
## The model-agnostic promise
This skill exists so the methodology survives the model. A frontier model does some of this by instinct; a mid-tier model does none of it by instinct. That's why every pillar above is a **gate** (checkable) rather than a **value** (aspirational) — Sonnet, GPT, or any executor following these gates produces Fable-shaped results. The weaker the model, the more the gates matter. **The method IS the moat.**
