# CAST AI Upgrade & Migration
## Overview
Upgrade CAST AI components: Helm charts for the agent/controller/evictor, Terraform provider version, and workload autoscaler. Includes rollback procedures for each component.
## Prerequisites
- Current CAST AI components installed
- Staging cluster for testing upgrades first
- Helm and kubectl access
- Change management approval for production
## Instructions
### Step 1: Check Current Versions

### Step 2: Review Changelog

### Step 3: Upgrade on Staging First

### Step 4: Upgrade Terraform Provider

### Step 5: Validate After Upgrade

### Rollback Procedure

## Error Handling
| Issue | Cause | Solution |
|-------|-------|----------|
| Agent CrashLoop after upgrade | Breaking chart change | `helm rollback` to previous |
| Terraform plan shows destroy | Major provider version jump | Pin intermediate version |
| Policies reset after upgrade | Chart default values changed | Pass `--reuse-values` |
| Spot handler incompatible | Node format changed | Upgrade all components together |
## Output
Record the source and target chart/provider versions, reviewed change notes,
staging validation evidence, production change approval, post-upgrade health,
and explicit rollback decision. The release is not complete merely because
pods start: autoscaler policy state, node lifecycle behavior, and cost signals
must match the approved baseline.
## Examples
Upgrade the staging agent with the production values, observe one controlled
scale event, and compare policy exports before and after the change. Promote
only when the acceptance checks pass; on a CrashLoop or destructive Terraform
plan, stop promotion, run the documented Helm rollback, and attach the
redacted failure evidence to the change record.
