## Summary
Validate a neural network module (such as a sinusoidal embedder) by checking output tensor shape, numerical range, orthogonality properties, and behavior across edge cases. This skill ensures the module meets architectural constraints before integration into a larger pipeline.
## When to use
After implementing a neural network component that will feed into a downstream architecture (e.g., a transformer). Use this skill when the module's outputs must meet strict dimensional and numerical requirements, or when variable-length or multi-modal inputs (peak m/z and intensity arrays) must be normalized deterministically.
## When NOT to use
- Module is already in production and passing all integration tests in the full pipeline.
- Input is a pre-computed embedding or feature table that does not require module-level validation.
- The downstream architecture has no strict shape or numerical requirements.
## Inputs
- Peak metadata arrays (m/z values, intensity values)
- Variable-length peak lists
- Module implementation code
## Outputs
- Unit test results (pass/fail status)
- Output tensor shape verification report
- Numerical range and orthogonality analysis
- Validated module ready for integration
## How to apply
Create unit tests that verify: (1) output tensor shape matches the expected fixed-length representation compatible with transformer input; (2) output numerical values fall within the expected range (e.g., bounded by sinusoidal function properties); (3) orthogonality or independence of basis functions (for embedders using sine/cosine encodings at multiple frequency scales); (4) handling of variable-length peak lists without shape errors; (5) input normalization correctness; (6) deterministic outputs given the same input. Run these tests on representative subsets of your data before full training.

## Evaluation signals
- Output tensor shape is fixed-length and matches transformer input dimensions (no shape errors on variable-length peaks).
- Output numerical values lie within expected bounds derived from sinusoidal function properties (e.g., [−1, 1] range or scaled equivalents).
- Sinusoidal basis functions at different frequency scales are orthogonal or exhibit low correlation.
- Unit tests confirm deterministic output: identical input → identical output (reproducibility).
- Embedder correctly normalizes input peak m/z and intensity arrays without NaN or Inf values propagating to output.
## Limitations
- Validation assumes the embedder receives properly formatted peak metadata; garbage or malformed input may not be caught by unit tests alone.
- Orthogonality checks may not detect all downstream transformer compatibility issues; full end-to-end testing is still required.
- Variable-length peak list handling must be explicitly tested; default padding or truncation strategies can mask issues.
- The README notes that 'some of the records in the spectra data contain inaccurate data or some of the information is missing'; validation does not address upstream data quality problems.
