# Orbital Error Dynamics (OED): Zero-Storage Neural Synthesis

Methodology from arXiv:2609.30115 (Dağlı, Dağlı & Dağlı, Sep 2026; patent TR 2026/016285).
Replaces stored weight tensors O(W) with procedurally generated weights from a 24-byte
coordinate seed Θ = (cx, cy, ζ) — three float64 values — via the Mandelbrot quadratic map
z_{n+1} = z² + c. Weights exist only transiently during forward/backward passes; the model
IS the coordinate. Use when exploring parameter-free inference, weight-procedural
generation, edge/neuromorphic O(1)-memory AI, or edge-of-chaos training regimes.

⚠️ **Honest assessment**: this is a speculative/fringe paper (toy Two-Moons N=300 benchmark,
patent-driven, heavy biomimetic metaphor). The reusable pattern is the zero-storage
procedural synthesis + critical-boundary sampling; treat the biological narratives
(zinc sparks, CD4+ immune gating, enteric dual-brain) as inspiration, not validated science.

## Core Pattern: Ephemeral Parameter Resonance

**Definition**: A parameter set W is "ephemeral" if W = Φ(Θ, τ) where dim(Θ) ≪ dim(W)
and persistent storage Mem(W) → 0. The full model survives as a 24-byte seed:
- Θ = (cx, cy, ζ ∈ ℝ³), ζ = log₁₀(zoom)
- Query the non-escaping (dark) region of the Mandelbrot map at resolution 32×32
- Split the sampled grid into 4 quadrants; quadrant mass ratios R₁..R₄ ∈ [0,1]
- Weight vector: W = [2R₁−1, 2R₂−1, 2R₃−1, 2R₄−1]ᵀ (the "ATCG" quadrant mapping:
  each quadrant ↔ one weight, analogous to nucleotide bases)

For a neuron: ŷ = σ(w₁x₁ + w₂x₂ + w₃x₁x₂ + b). Memory footprint = 24 bytes constant,
independent of layer count (tensors allocated for a pass, released immediately).

## Observer Horizon Geometry (parameter-space loci)

Distinguish the **parameter plane** (c ∈ ℂ, where Θ lives) from the **dynamical plane**
(z ∈ ℂ, where orbits run). Key loci on the vertical transversal Re(c) = 0.25:
- **Cardioid cusp**: c = 1/4 — parabolic tangency, d/dz(z²+c)|_{z=1/2} = 1, neutral stability
- **True period-1 boundary**: c_boundary = 0.25 ± 0.50i (via c(θ) = ½e^{iθ} − ¼e^{2iθ}, θ=π/2)
- **Interior resonance shoulders** (the sampling sweet spots):
  - X_upper = (0.25, +0.18), X_lower = (0.25, −0.18)
  - transitional attractor pockets between fixed-point sink and boundary

## Phase-Space Surfing: Edge of Chaos as Objective

For each candidate c, compute the Lyapunov exponent λ_z of the orbit in the dynamical
plane. Three regimes:
1. λ_z < 0: hyperbolic sink collapse (interior) — "entropic death", over-smoothing analog
2. λ_z > 0: unbounded chaotic divergence (exterior) — useless weights
3. λ_z ≈ 0: **OED homeostatic horizon surfing** — the target regime

**Orbital homeostasis loss**: L_orbital = [(N̄_esc(Θ) − N*)/N*]² with N* = 22 target
escaping-orbit count per 32×32 grid — pulls the seed toward boundary criticality.

**Fractal diversity regularizer**: σ_fractal = Var(R₁, R₂, R₃, R₄) — prevents degenerate
uniform-quadrant solutions (all weights collapsing to same value).

**Total objective**: L_total(Θ) = L_task(Φ(Θ)) + λ_orb·L_orbital(Θ) + β·σ_fractal(Θ)
(λ_orb = 0.35, β = 0.01).

## Biomimetic Perturbed Jump Operator (saddle escape)

When gradient stalls (‖∇_Θ L‖ < ε_tol = 0.05 AND L_task > τ_err = 0.38), inject a
heavy-tailed jump instead of noise-free gradient step:

```
Ω_tunneling ~ Cauchy(0, γ_spark)   # γ_spark = 0.10
Θ_{t+1} = Θ_t + Ω_tunneling
```

Cauchy has infinite variance → non-local leaps across finite barriers (contrast: Gaussian
perturbed gradient descent of Jin et al. 2017 escapes strict saddles but with local steps).
Inspired by mammalian fertilization "zinc spark" — dormant system reactivated by ion burst.
Otherwise: Θ_{t+1} = Θ_t − η·clip(g_t, −1, 1), η = 0.06.

Gradients wrt the 3D seed are computed by **finite differences** (δ = 0.02) over the
parameter manifold — only 3 numbers need differentiating, not W.

## Algorithm (complete hyperparameters)

```
Θ₀ = (−0.72, 0.28, 2.8); η = 0.06; δ = 0.02; ε_tol = 0.05; τ_err = 0.38
λ_orb = 0.35 (N* = 22); β = 0.01; γ_spark = 0.10; T = 50 epochs
for t in 1..T:
    R₁..R₄ ← SampleQuadrants(Θ_t, res=32)     # dark-region mass ratios
    W_t ← [2R₁−1, 2R₂−1, 2R₃−1, 2R₄−1]
    ŷ ← σ(w₁x₁ + w₂x₂ + w₃x₁x₂ + b)
    L_total ← BCE + 0.35·L_orbital + 0.01·σ_fractal
    g_t ← ∇_Θ L_total (finite difference, δ=0.02)
    if ‖g_t‖ < 0.05 and L_task > 0.38:  Θ ← Θ + Cauchy(0, 0.10)
    else:                                Θ ← Θ − 0.06·clip(g_t, −1, 1)
    release W_t  (memory stays at 24 bytes)
```

## Reported Results (Two-Moons, 5 seeds, 80/20)

| Model | Clean test acc | Shift N(1.2,0.4) | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logistic regression (4 features, GD) | 85.67% ± 5.35 | 80.33% ± 7.21 | 16-32 B, O(W) |
| OED (24-byte seed) | 77.67% ± 5.35 | 71.33% ± 3.80 | 24 B, O(1) |

Paired diff (GLM − OED): clean = 8.00% ± 7.30, 95% CI [−1.07%, 17.07%] — **includes 0**
(no statistically significant degradation at α=0.05). Under shift the CI excludes 0 —
OED is genuinely worse under noise. Only 3 DOF: it cannot beat unconstrained backprop on
training loss by construction; the claim is parity-at-24-bytes, not superiority.

## Relation to Prior Art

- **Intrinsic dimension** (Li et al. 2018): W = W₀ + Pθ needs stored projection matrix P
- **HyperNetworks** (Ha et al. 2017): generator net itself holds millions of weights
- **HashedNets** (Chen et al. 2015): discrete hash sharing, no continuous topology
- **OED**: no projection matrix, no generator network — just z² + c evaluated on demand.
  Closest real relatives: cellular-automata weight generation, WeightNoise/procedural
  parameter hashing, and "weight is a function of coordinates" implicit neural representations.

## Hardware Thesis (conceptual)

Digital silicon: iterative arithmetic per MAC. OED's claim: map Θ onto a 532nm coherent
wavefront (SLM), compute the "which-quadrant-escapes" structure optically via a 4f Fourier
lens system (~10⁻¹²s), read non-divergent intensity with CMOS photoreceptor arrays, and
impose the cardioid cutoff with polarization filters. Unvalidated concept, but the
zero-storage property makes parameters compatible with analog substrates that cannot
hold state.

## Reuse Checklist

1. Need O(1) memory inference on tiny devices → sample Θ on the Mandelbrot boundary,
   derive weights per pass. Start at shoulder loci (0.25, ±0.18).
2. Training stalls in a procedural manifold → gate a Cauchy jump on
   (‖∇‖ < ε_tol AND L > τ_err); do NOT jump when loss is already acceptable.
3. Want edge-of-chaos behavior without hand-tuning temperature → use
   L_orbital with an escape-count target N* to pull λ_z toward 0.
4. Any procedural generator (not just Mandelbrot) → quadrant-variance regularizer
   prevents degenerate uniform outputs.

## Pitfalls

- 3-DOF seed caps expressivity: fine for shallow probes/feature maps, not deep nets
  without hierarchical seeds (paper does not solve multi-layer synthesis convincingly)
- Finite-difference gradients: 2·dim(Θ) forward passes per step — cheap here, costly
  if Θ grows
- Boundary sampling is resolution-dependent (32×32); N* must be re-tuned per resolution
- The biology mapping (CD4+ gating mask M_CD4 = 1/(1+exp(α(|∇L_visc|−τ))),
  enteric dual-brain) is an analogy layer — no experimental validation exists
