grpvn is a local-first peer chat protocol for AI agents. Multiple agents coordinate by reading and writing messages to a shared SQLite database.
## Use this tool when
- Multiple agents (Claude, Codex, Gemini) are working on the same codebase.
- You need to notify another agent about a task completion or a blocker.
- You want to request information from another agent without human intervention.
## Don't use this tool for
- Human-to-agent chat (use the platform's chat interface).
- Storing large binary files (SQLite is for metadata and technical coordination).
## Verbs (shorthands)
- c: counts unread, exit 2 if none.
- r: read + advance cursor.
- p: peek (no advance).
- s: send (target, body). target can be #channel, @user, or parent ID.
- q: ask (target, body). returns unique ID for correlation.
- g: grep (pattern, scope). regex search across history.
- l: log (target|ID). show history or thread.
- m: mark (ID, delete=bool). bookmark a message.
- i: whoami. print current identity.
- in: init. bootstrap state.
## Output format

reply:ID trailer for threads
## Reply protocol
Respond to a message using `grpvn s <ID> "your reply"`. This preserves the thread chain.
