# Marketing Measurement Strategy
Use when marketing needs a coherent way to judge performance across campaigns and channels without optimizing disconnected vanity metrics.
## Procedure
1. Define the business and customer outcomes marketing is expected to influence and the time horizons over which effects appear.
2. Build a metric hierarchy from final outcomes to leading indicators and operational health, making causal assumptions explicit.
3. Define each metric, unit, population, window, source system, owner, freshness, and known blind spots.
4. Choose attribution, experiment, incrementality, survey, pipeline, or cohort methods according to the decision rather than forcing one measurement model onto every channel.
5. Preserve campaign and channel identity through activation, retention, revenue, or another downstream quality signal where technically and ethically appropriate.
6. Set reporting and review cadence to match how quickly the underlying decision can change.
7. Define thresholds or triggers for scale, pause, investigate, or reallocate and distinguish noisy monitoring from decision evidence.
8. Document methodology changes so historical trends are not silently broken when tracking or models evolve.
## Decision rules
- Metrics should form a causal story from activity to customer and business outcome.
- Reach, impressions, clicks, and opens are inputs or leading signals, not universal success measures.
- Attribution and incrementality answer different questions.
- Measurement cost should be proportional to decision value.
## Quality gate
The strategy is ready when outcomes and leading indicators connect coherently, definitions and sources are reproducible, appropriate methods are assigned to important decisions, downstream quality is visible, decision thresholds have owners, and methodology changes remain traceable. Is this your skill, or is something wrong with this listing?
