# Learning Objectives
Use when a training program, lesson, workshop, or exercise needs a precise definition of what learners should be able to do afterward.
## Procedure
1. Identify the real task or decision learners must perform and the environment, tools, constraints, and audience involved.
2. Assess prerequisite knowledge and separate entry requirements from outcomes the training itself must produce.
3. Write objectives around observable behavior: configure, diagnose, compare, produce, decide, demonstrate, or explain with specified evidence where appropriate.
4. Include the conditions and quality bar when performance depends on tools, reference material, time, accuracy, safety, or collaboration.
5. Keep objectives at the smallest level useful for designing instruction and assessment; avoid mixing several unrelated abilities into one statement.
6. Map each objective to a learning activity and an assessment method capable of proving it.
7. Review objectives with the subject-matter owner so training reflects current real work rather than an idealized process.
8. Remove objectives that are interesting but not necessary for the defined performance outcome.
## Decision rules
- “Understand” is not observable until translated into what the learner can do with that understanding.
- Training content should follow objectives, not the other way around.
- Not every fact needs its own objective.
- Safety- or compliance-critical behavior needs explicit success criteria.
## Quality gate
Objectives are ready when each describes an observable capability tied to real work, prerequisites and conditions are clear, assessment can demonstrate success, and unnecessary content can be excluded without undermining the target performance. Is this your skill, or is something wrong with this listing?
