# Headline Iteration
Use when a page, ad, email, article, or campaign needs a stronger first line without changing the underlying offer or claim.
## Procedure
1. Define the audience, context, core message, strongest proof, desired response, and claims the headline must not exceed.
2. Write several distinct strategic angles: outcome, problem, contrast, specificity, proof, audience identity, category, or curiosity grounded in real content.
3. Keep each option understandable without the writer's explanation and avoid sacrificing the subject merely to create intrigue.
4. Compare variants for clarity, relevance, specificity, differentiation, tone, and how well the supporting copy can substantiate them.
5. Check length in the actual placement and identify where truncation or line breaks change meaning.
6. Remove clichés, unsupported absolutes, vague superlatives, and formulaic urgency.
7. Pair promising options with subheads or supporting proof when the headline alone cannot responsibly carry the full claim.
8. Test variants with audience evidence or controlled performance data when the decision is consequential and traffic permits.
## Decision rules
- Headline iteration should explore different ideas, not synonyms.
- Curiosity works only when the content pays it off.
- Specificity is valuable when the underlying fact is supportable.
- A headline should not make a stronger promise than the product or article can fulfill.
## Quality gate
The selected headline is ready when it clearly earns attention from the intended audience, expresses a supportable promise or idea, fits the actual placement, differs meaningfully from rejected options, and the following content immediately fulfills the expectation it creates. Is this your skill, or is something wrong with this listing?
