# Faction Lore
Use when a faction needs narrative depth beyond its systemic worldbuilding definition.
## Procedure
1. Start from the canonical faction structure, goals, capabilities, history, territory, and relationships already defined in the world bible.
2. Identify the founding story, defining events, internal myths, heroes or villains, schisms, reforms, betrayals, and losses that members use to explain themselves.
3. Distinguish official doctrine and propaganda from what members, outsiders, historians, and rivals believe actually happened.
4. Define leaders, subgroups, ranks, rituals, symbols, sayings, and traditions only where they reveal values or internal conflict.
5. Show variation among ordinary members so lore does not reduce a large organization to one ideological voice.
6. Tie faction history to current alliances, grudges, material interests, institutions, and player-facing conflicts.
7. Check dates, geography, technology or magic, named figures, and cross-faction events against existing canon.
8. Record secrets and restricted knowledge with audience or discovery boundaries so gameplay and dialogue do not reveal them accidentally.
## Decision rules
- Faction lore should deepen motives and contradictions, not merely add ceremonial detail.
- Propaganda can be canonically false while remaining canonically real as a belief.
- Internal diversity makes factions more credible.
- Secrets need knowledge boundaries.
## Quality gate
Faction lore is ready when history explains present behavior, official story and disputed truth are distinguishable, internal groups and ordinary members feel plausible, relationships agree with wider canon, and secret information has clear discovery boundaries. Is this your skill, or is something wrong with this listing?
