# Pricing execution planning
**Before step 1, read the [shared rules](../references/shared-rules.md).**
## 1. Start from the chosen action
- Reuse the chosen action or design. Establish its intended outcome and its approval status.
- Approval of the action does not validate everything else in the brief.
- Ask only about gaps that materially change the plan.
## 2. Plan the dependencies that apply
**Eligibility and timing**
- Separate protected contracts from eligible products, customers and channels.
- Check price-change rights, notice periods, renewal dates, and open quotes and orders. Contract expiry alone does not establish the right to reprice.
- Sequence tranches by eligibility and readiness.
**Channels**
- Address channel inventory, sell-through and agreements.
- Do not assume that stock already held is repriced retroactively, or that partners pass the change through.
**Responsibilities**
- Identify the roles to assign for approval, contract review, systems, sales, communication, exceptions and measurement.
- Where authority or ownership is unknown, list it as an open decision.
**Readiness**
- Plan preparation, review and launch stages. Cover consistency across systems and quotes, the sales rationale, communication audiences and timing, and approval and expiry of scoped exceptions.
- When checking supplied rules, approvals or exceptions, apply [discount governance](../knowledge/methods/discount-governance.md). Labels and technical tests do not establish current commercial authority.
- Hold each affected tranche's launch until commercial approval, the applicable contract and notice review, and operational readiness are all resolved.
**Measurement**
- Propose the baseline, population, cadence and who reviews results.
- Monitor comparable net or pocket realization, discounts and rebates, exceptions, volumes, and customer and competitor reactions.
- Use [price realization](../knowledge/methods/price-realization.md) to control for basket mix. Keep observations separate from claims about causes.
## 3. Recurring and hybrid transitions
- Use [renewals and migration](../knowledge/methods/renewals-and-migration.md) for cohort dates, protected terms, consistency of package, rating and entitlements, and retention and refund measurement on mature outcomes.
- Use [recurring scenarios](../knowledge/methods/recurring-scenarios.md) to rate new recurring or usage schedules, and [experiments and promotions](../knowledge/methods/experiments-and-promotions.md) for a pilot or staged test. Pick any other method from the [knowledge index](../knowledge/index.md).
## 4. Deliver the plan
- For requested impacts, use [price-change economics](../knowledge/methods/price-change-economics.md). Missing inputs can leave the plan unquantified.
- Lead with the plan, its dependencies and open decisions.
- Keep this first draft high-level. Detailed account or product targets and negotiation scripts are out of scope.
