# AWS Lambda Skill
Analyze AWS Lambda functions with parallel execution and anti-hallucination guardrails.
**Relationship to other AWS skills:**

## CRITICAL: Parallel Execution Requirement
**ALL independent operations MUST run in parallel using background jobs (&) and wait.**

## Anti-Hallucination Rules
1. **Never guess runtimes** - Always query `list-functions` to get actual runtime values. Valid runtimes change over time.
2. **Duration != Cold Start** - `Duration` metric is execution time only. Cold start is `Init Duration` from REPORT logs. Do not conflate them.
3. **Memory != Allocated Memory** - `MemorySize` is configured max. Actual usage requires CloudWatch `max_memory_used` from REPORT logs.
4. **Throttles != Errors** - Throttled invocations are NOT counted as errors. They are separate metrics.
5. **CodeSize is compressed** - The `CodeSize` field is the deployment package size (zip), not uncompressed code size.

Target ≤50 lines of output. Use tables for multi-resource comparisons.
## Counter-Rationalizations
| Shortcut | Counter | Why |

| "I'll skip discovery and check known resources" | Always run Phase 1 discovery first | Resource names change, new resources appear — assumed names cause errors |
| "The user only asked for a quick check" | Follow the full discovery → analysis flow | Quick checks miss critical issues; structured analysis catches silent failures |
| "Default configuration is probably fine" | Audit configuration explicitly | Defaults often leave logging, security, and optimization features disabled |
| "Metrics aren't needed for this" | Always check relevant metrics when available | API/CLI responses show current state; metrics reveal trends and intermittent issues |
| "I don't have access to that" | Try the command and report the actual error | Assumed permission failures prevent useful investigation; actual errors are informative |
## Common Pitfalls
- **CloudWatch statistics syntax**: Use spaces not commas: `--statistics Average Maximum` (NOT `Average,Maximum`)
- **Log group naming**: Lambda log groups follow `/aws/lambda/{function-name}` convention. Do not guess other patterns.
- **Concurrent execution limits**: Account default is 1000. Check with `aws lambda get-account-settings`.
- **Qualifier matters**: When checking aliases/versions, always specify `--qualifier`. Unqualified calls go to `$LATEST`.
- **ARM vs x86**: Check `Architectures` field. arm64 functions have different pricing. Do not assume x86_64.
