# Newsletter Brief (step 6) — the source of truth
The core document all newsletter work revolves around: it keeps the writer honest as they produce,
and it's the doc you deliberately change on a pivot.
## Precondition
`newsletter-context/subject-observed.md`, `newsletter-context/seed-context.md`, `newsletter-context/identity-stated.md`, `newsletter-context/reconcile.md` (answered).
## Procedure
1. **Mode:** confident **identity document**, declarative — not a hedged analyst report. **No length limit.** Quality bar = match/beat a strong hand-written CLAUDE.md (D20).
2. **Carry the texture IN** from `newsletter-context/subject-observed.md` — topics, lenses, motifs, signature vocabulary. Do NOT compress it into an index (the v1 mistake).
3. **Structure:** the thesis (developed) · what it's about + *how each topic is treated* · the patterns (analytical moves) · signature vocabulary · how it's been written so far (descriptive; operational rules → Voice Profile) · objectives & vision (from reconcile; *is* vs *becoming* kept distinct) · boundaries & audience · open tensions.
4. **Confirm — the gate.** Present it; invite correction; revise. Mark provisional until the writer signs off. Stamp the last-confirmed date.
## Output
`newsletter-context/newsletter-brief.md` — **Milestone 1 complete** once confirmed. Pairs with the Voice Profile
(step 7) to form the generated CLAUDE.md-equivalent.
---
_**Language:** if the newsletter isn't in English, converse with the writer — and write outputs — in the newsletter's language._
