# Adopt event sourcing without the graveyard mistakes

> Command/event separation, upcasting discipline, and projection rebuild strategies that survive year three.

**Track:** ⚙️ Backend Engineering · **Domain:** Distributed Systems · **Level:** advanced · **~45 min**

**Who this is for:** Backend Engineers, API Developers, Platform Engineers, Full-Stack Developers

## When to Use This Skill

Command/event separation, upcasting discipline, and projection rebuild strategies that survive year three.
Use it whenever a matching task appears in conversation — the agent loads these instructions on demand.

## Steps

1. Store commands' resulting EVENTS as truth; never store mutable state alongside
2. Version events immutably; upcast old versions at read boundaries only
3. Build projections as disposable rebuilds from the stream — test rebuilds regularly
4. Snapshot aggressively enough that replays don't take hours
5. Keep event payloads primitively typed; rich behavior belongs in handlers
6. Answer 'why did state change' queries from streams — that's the payoff

## Common Pitfalls

- Events named after tables (UserUpdated) carrying no business meaning
- Schema changes editing history instead of adding versions

## Commands

**Install with skills CLI**
```bash
npx skills add aniruddhaadak80/skills --skill distributed-systems-event-sourcing-pragmatics
```

**Install globally**
```bash
npx skills add aniruddhaadak80/skills --skill distributed-systems-event-sourcing-pragmatics -g
```

Hyperplan

Adversarial multi-agent planning skill. Self-orchestrates 5 hostile category members (unspecified-low, unspecified-high, deep, ultrabrain, artistry) via team-mode for ruthless cross-critique debate, distills only the defensible insights, then MANDATORILY hands the distilled insight bundle to the `plan` agent for executable plan formalization. Use when planning needs maximum rigor and surfacing of weak assumptions, blind spots, and over-engineering. Triggers: 'hyperplan', 'hpp', '/hyperplan', ...

Writing Skills

Create and manage Claude Code skills in HASH repository following Anthropic best practices. Mcp Code Execution

Routes multi-tool workflows through MCP servers for large datasets and pipelines. Use when Bash tool overhead is limiting throughput on data-heavy tasks.

catchup

Recovers the conversation and failed tool calls of a previous Codex, Amp, Claude Code, Antigravity, Cline, Copilot CLI, Cursor, DeepSeek Harness, Grok Build, Kimi, OpenCode, Pi Agent, or ZCode session. Use when the user says "catch up", "what did the last session do", "get me up to speed", "I switched agents", asks to recover/summarize a previous session before continuing, or asks to diagnose or report a catchup failure. Do NOT use for the current conversation, git history, or any non-agent log.
