# Content marketing strategy
Content works when it answers a question the buyer is already asking and
fails when it is published because a calendar demanded it. Sustainability
matters more than volume, since content compounds only if it keeps
coming.
## Method
1. **Start from questions buyers actually ask.** Sales calls, support
tickets, and search queries are the source; topic brainstorms produce
content nobody searched for (see search-analytics).
2. **Map content to the stage of intent.** Someone diagnosing a problem
needs different material from someone comparing vendors, and one
piece rarely serves both.
3. **Commit to a cadence you can hold.** Monthly sustained beats weekly
abandoned, because credibility comes from consistency.
4. **Write for the reader, not for the algorithm.** Content optimised
for search and useless to readers ranks briefly and converts nothing
(see technical-seo).
5. **Build a few substantial pieces rather than many thin ones.** Depth
attracts links and citations, which is what makes content compound.
6. **Include a next step in every piece.** Not a hard sell, but somewhere
to go if the reader wants more.
7. **Measure assisted conversions, not just direct.** Content usually
influences rather than closes, and last-click attribution makes it
look worthless (see marketing-attribution).
## Boundaries
Content is a slow channel with returns measured in quarters, which makes
it wrong for urgent growth needs. It requires genuine expertise, and
generated volume without it is noticed and discounted. Distribution
matters as much as creation and is usually under-resourced.
