# Typography scale
Use when setting type — a small ramp, deliberate line height, and hierarchy that survives real content.
## Checklist
- Build a ratio-based ramp and use only its steps.
- Set line height inversely to size: tight for headings, roomy for body.
- Keep body copy between 45 and 75 characters per line.
- Use weight and colour for hierarchy before reaching for another size.
- Set tabular figures for anything in a column of numbers.
- Test the ramp with the longest real string you have, not lorem ipsum.
