# Quantum Priors for Chaos Prediction (Q-Priors)
## Overview
Q-Priors provide a two-stage quantum advantage mechanism for predicting chaotic dynamical systems using quantum-informed machine learning.
## Core Methodology
### Stage 1: Representation
- k-indexed higher-order Q-Priors store k-point marginal of invariant measure on n_q = kq qubits
- Superposition and entanglement compactly encode non-factorisable spatial correlations
- Extends single-site construction to multi-site correlations
### Stage 2: Extraction
- Joint Bell measurements on two copies estimate any post-hoc Pauli functional
- Copy-pair count independent of n_q (provable separation)
- Single-copy adaptive protocol requires Omega(2^n_q) copies
- Provable quantum-classical separation in copy-measurement complexity
## Implementation Workflow
1. **Encode invariant measure**: Construct k-indexed Q-Prior state |ψ_k⟩ encoding k-point marginal
2. **Prepare two copies**: Create |ψ_k⟩ ⊗ |ψ_k⟩ for Bell measurement
3. **Bell measurement**: Apply joint Bell basis measurement to extract Pauli functional expectation
4. **Classical post-processing**: Combine measurement outcomes into prediction (e.g., Koopman operator rollout)
## Key Results
- FRQI-style encoding: 97% circuit depth reduction via Schmidt low-rank approximation
- Weather forecasting (ERA5): 10-39% anomaly-correlation skill improvement at 48-240h lead times
- Turbulent channel flow: extracts velocity-direction coherence (non-diagonal correlator)
- Validated on IQM superconducting processors
## Practical Advantage Conditions
1. **Representational**: Quantum state compactly encodes correlations classical methods cannot efficiently store
2. **Extraction**: Two-copy Bell measurement achieves read-out complexity independent of system size
## Activation
quantum statistical prior, Q-Prior, chaos prediction, quantum advantage, turbulent flow, weather forecasting, Bell measurement, invariant measure, Koopman operator, non-diagonal correlator
