## What I do
Audit for vulnerabilities: dependency CVEs, leaked secrets, OWASP Top 10 review, security headers, input validation, CI/CD scanning — plus this config's runtime secret-masking verification (vibeguard).
## When to use me
Pre-deploy security review; CI scanning setup; committed-secret detection; header/transport hardening; incident response.

## Step 1: Dependency audit
Node `npm audit --production` (+ `fix --dry-run`) · Python `pip-audit --desc` / `safety check --json` · Go `govulncheck ./...`. Per CVE: CVSS + exploitability, is the vulnerable path actually used, patch version, breaking changes in the patch.
## Step 2: Secret detection
Scan patterns: API keys `(?i)(api[_-]?key)\s*[:=]\s*['"][^'"]{16,}['"]` · AWS `AKIA[0-9A-Z]{16}` + secret-key assignment · generic tokens/passwords · `-----BEGIN … PRIVATE KEY-----`. Tools: `gitleaks detect --source .` · `trufflehog filesystem` · `detect-secrets scan`. Pre-commit: gitleaks hook (rev v8.18.0).
## Step 3: OWASP Top 10 review (checklist form)
Injection (parameterized queries only — never string-built SQL/commands; XXE: disable external entity resolution) · Broken auth (see `authentication-authorization-skill` for the implemented patterns) · Sensitive data exposure (TLS in transit, no secrets in logs/errors; secrets never in client bundles) · Broken access control (deny-by-default, object-level ownership checks — not just route-level) · Misconfig (debug off in prod, default creds, permissive CORS) · XSS (context-aware escaping; CSP as backstop) · Insecure deserialization (never unpickle/unserialize untrusted input) · Vulnerable components (Step 1) · Insufficient logging (auth failures, permission denials, input-validation failures logged with request id).
Production data leakage (3b): PII in logs/errors/analytics/crash reports; seed scripts with real user data; response payloads over-fetching. Cloud (3c): public S3 buckets/OBUs, over-permissive IAM (`*:*`), unencrypted at rest, security-group 0.0.0.0/0 on non-HTTP ports.
## Step 4: Security headers
CSP (default-src 'self' baseline, tighten per app), HSTS (`max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`), X-Frame-Options DENY/SAMEORIGIN, X-Content-Type-Options nosniff, Referrer-Policy strict-origin-when-cross-origin. HTTPS enforced — no mixed content, no insecure redirects.
## Step 5: Input validation
Validate at trust boundaries (schema-based: zod/pydantic); server-side always (client validation is UX, not security); allow-lists over block-lists; file uploads: type/size limits + isolated storage.
## Step 6: CI/CD integration
Gate PRs on `npm audit` / `pip-audit` (fail on high+), gitleaks scan (fail on any hit), Dependabot/renovate for updates. Secrets in CI via env/OIDC — never committed.
## Runtime Secret Masking (vibeguard)
Vibeguard (local v2 port at `plugins/opencode-vibeguard.ts`, engine from `opencode-vibeguard@0.1.0`, MIT) masks secrets in provider-bound traffic (LLM requests) using regex patterns and builtin detectors. On OpenCode v2 it registers session `context`/`generate` hooks (outbound system + messages, including tool-call input/output parts) and a tool `execute.before` hook (restores real values into tool arguments). Masked values are replaced with `__VG_<CATEGORY>_<hash12>__` placeholders; a per-session map restores real values at tool-execution time.
### How masking works
1. **Upstream (provider-bound):** secrets in tool output, file reads, and conversation history are replaced with `__VG_…__` placeholders before the LLM sees them.
2. **At exec time:** `tool.execute.before` restores placeholders back to real values so tools (bash, write, etc.) receive the actual data.
3. **Historical redaction:** previous tool I/O in conversation history is also redacted on subsequent turns.

**IMPORTANT:** the first existing config wins entirely — there is **no merge**. A per-project config completely overrides the global one. If you need both global regex + project keywords, re-include the regex patterns in your project config.
### Verification steps
1. **Smoke test:** `OPENCODE_VIBEGUARD_DEBUG=1 opencode` with a test `.env.local` containing known secrets. Check debug output for replace-counts > 0.
2. **Transcript check:** prompt "show DATABASE_URL from .env.local" → confirm transcript shows `__VG_…__`, never plaintext.
3. **Tool-exec check:** prompt "write a script using DATABASE_URL" → confirm output uses `$DATABASE_URL` or vibeguard restores at exec; provider transcript is clean.
4. **Case-sensitivity:** with `PASSWORD=secret` and `STRIPE_SECRET_KEY=sk_test_...` in `.env.local`, confirm both are redacted. The global config uses `flags: "i"` on SECRET_ASSIGNMENT.
### Per-project keyword setup
To catch exact-match secrets the regex patterns miss (e.g. a proprietary API key format): create `./vibeguard.config.json` at the project root (**uncommitted** — add to `.gitignore`), include literal `keywords`: `[{"value": "my-proprietary-key", "category": "CUSTOM_KEY"}]`, and **re-include the global regex patterns** (no merge — see above).
### `$VAR` usage pattern
Always prefer `$VAR` env references over inlining secret literals in scripts, configs, and commands. This is defense-in-depth: even if masking fails, the literal never enters the code.
### Fallback when vibeguard is disabled
If vibeguard is no-op (config missing, malformed, `enabled:false`), bash/grep/MCP paths are fully unprotected. `permission.read` `.env` denies protect only the primary `build` agent (subagents override with `{"*":"allow"}`). Treat any `.env` value as exposed and avoid processing it.
### Residual risks (documented, not eliminated)

### Phase-2 future: `shell.env` injection
Planned: inject `.env` values directly into the shell environment at exec time (via `shell.env` plugin) so agents never `read` `.env` files at all. Deferred — current vibeguard + `$VAR` pattern covers the use case without the complexity.
