<essential_principles>

## What slop is, measurably

Slop is prose that could have been written about anything. The same hedges, the same tells, sentences of one length, a copula where a verb belongs, and the same openings in every record of the same command. Each of those is a number, and `dtd/ai-slop.dtd` declares the number and where it cuts. `lib/ai-slop.mjs` reads that file and nothing else; the ban list lives in one place.

## The three layers (LAW.SLOP.1, LAW.SLOP.2, LAW.SLOP.4)

1. **The ban list.** `SLOP.tell.*`, `SLOP.hedge.*`, `SLOP.filler.*`, `SLOP.closer.*`. A tell or a closer anywhere in the answer's own voice fails the gate; hedges and fillers are counted per thousand words. A phrase inside a code fence, an inline code span, a table row or a `quoted` element is data and never a hit.
2. **The verb gate.** A sentence whose only verb is a copula or an auxiliary is static. The answer is alive when static sentences are at most `SLOP.static.max` of the whole. The classifier is a proxy and says so on every report: copula present, and no `-ed`, no `-ing`, no token from the verb list, which is declared as LEX.verb.* in `dtd/cc-lexicon.dtd` and read from there (LAW.LEX.1); a hit that matches a LEX.paraphrase.* pair prints its replacement beside it (LAW.LEX.2).
3. **The rotation.** Two consecutive records of the same command may share at most `SLOP.rotation.max` of their sentence-opening trigrams. The previous record is read from disk with `--prev`, never recalled.

Two rhythm measures back the layers (LAW.SLOP.3): the coefficient of variation of words per sentence must reach `SLOP.rhythm.min`, and the moving type-token ratio must reach `SLOP.mattr.min`. Under `SLOP.min_words` only the ban list is judged (LAW.SLOP.6).

## The report is the verdict (LAW.SLOP.5)

The gate renders one `slop_report`: a `slop_verdict` with alive yes or no, one `slop_hit` per phrase with its kind and line, and one `slop_measure` per measure with its value, its bound and whether it holds. A verdict stated without those lines was not given. The Adiutor applies the same scan at Stop and records a failed gate as a finding of kind `slop` (LAW.ADIUTOR.9).

## The gate as a hook on five spots (LAW.SLOP.7, LAW.SLOP.8)

Since 5.1.0 an armed Adiutor (`rdc arm`, `rdc install --arm`; a plain
install arms nothing) judges five spots without any command being run,
each named by an entity: SLOP.spot.1, the answer to any turn at Stop when
no `-dtd` run is open; SLOP.spot.2, the text of a Write, an Edit or a
NotebookEdit before it lands; SLOP.spot.3, the message of a `git commit`
given inline, by `-F` or by a heredoc; SLOP.spot.4, the body of a `gh pr`,
`gh issue` or `gh release` call, or of a `curl` payload to a pulls, issues
or releases path; and SLOP.spot.5, the answer of a subagent at SubagentStop,
judged only when the payload carries one, because that payload's shape is
not in the local hooks reference. What is judged depends on the file: an
extension in
SLOP.prose.ext is prose and judged whole; an extension in
SLOP.comment.slash, SLOP.comment.hash, SLOP.comment.dash or
SLOP.comment.angle is code, and its comments alone are lifted and judged
(`liftComments` in `lib/ai-slop.mjs`); a file of neither kind has nothing
to judge and passes. A small body is judged on the ban list alone

The five spots are strict whatever `ROT_DTD_ADIUTOR` says (LAW.SLOP.8): a
failed answer blocks the Stop once and the re-fired Stop passes; a failed
Write, Edit, commit or body is denied until its text changes; every refusal

ledger` and `rdc watch` show it (LAW.ADIUTOR.12, and the doctor's slop gate

## The controls come first

`node lib/ai-slop.mjs controls` runs both directions before the gate is trusted: every declared phrase is loaded, every declared measure is computed, the sloppy fixture fails with its tell count printed as the landed proof, the clean fixture passes, an identical previous record trips the rotation, a fenced hit is not counted, and `references/contract.md` matches the DTD it was rendered from.

1. Name the file to judge, and the previous record of the same command when one exists.
2. Run the gate and read its lines as data:

3. Report the `slop_report` as rendered: verdict, hits, measures with bounds.
4. When it fails, rewrite the answer's own voice: cut the phrase, put a verb where the copula was, vary the length, open the sentences differently from the previous record. Then run the gate again; the second report is the one that counts.
5. When a bound must change, change it in `dtd/ai-slop.dtd`, regenerate the table with `node lib/ai-slop.mjs table` into `references/contract.md`, and run the controls.
