# Session refresh — continue building/maintaining the `refresh` skill

Continuing work in `/Users/macbook/Documents/Projects/benai/benai-skills` (the BenAI Skills marketplace repo, branch `develop`). Goal of this session: keep iterating on the `refresh` skill, ship the pending rename, and close the open loops.

## Where things stand
- The skill lives at `shared-skills/refresh/SKILL.md`, currently **v0.5.0**. It was just renamed from `re-fresh` → `refresh` everywhere (folder, `name:`, title, trigger phrases, output filenames `refresh-<slug>.md`, skills-map key/displayName, synced plugin, zip names).
- It's in the **meta** department (`.claude-plugin/skills-map.json`), synced to `plugins/meta/skills/refresh/`, zipped to `dist/skill-zips/refresh.zip` + `dist/console/refresh.zip`.
- **The rename is NOT committed or pushed yet.** Last pushed commit is `9b42d24` (v0.5.0, pre-rename) on `origin/develop`. Working tree holds the full rename.
- Version history: 0.2.0 generalized (stripped BenAI-specific refs), 0.3.0 persist/embed chat-only data, 0.4.0 sandbox-aware persistence (real disk vs scratchpad), 0.4.1 always-print + folder-by-path, 0.5.0 portable "travels" mode (teammate/another machine/different folder → embed/bundle/shared-source, strip local paths).

Key decisions / hard rules:
- Edit skills only in `shared-skills/`, then run `./sync-skills.sh` (regenerates `plugins/*/skills/`), then `./build-zips.sh` (regenerates `dist/`). Never edit `plugins/*/skills/` directly.
- **Git: never run git in the background or concurrently.** Doing that earlier corrupted the object DB; it was recovered by re-cloning from origin and swapping in a clean `.git`. Run git sequentially, foreground.
- No em dashes anywhere. Always ask before pushing.
- `dist/` is gitignored and accumulates cloud-sync conflict copies (`desktop 3`, `skill-zips 2`, etc.) because the repo sits under `~/Documents`. Fix = wipe `dist/` and rebuild.

## Next steps
1. Commit the rename (scope the `git add` to `shared-skills/refresh`, `plugins/meta/skills/refresh`, deletion of `plugins/meta/skills/re-fresh`, and `.claude-plugin/skills-map.json`) and push to `develop`. Ask first.
2. Update the local test install `~/.claude/skills/re-fresh/` — it's still **v0.1.0** AND still the old name. Replace it with the current `shared-skills/refresh/` so tests run v0.5.0.
3. Optional: rename the original source copy at `/Users/macbook/Documents/Projects/benai/BenAI OS/.agents/skills/re-fresh/` to match, if it should stay in sync.
4. Optional: extract the stranded handoff bundle at `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/local-agent-mode-sessions/.../outputs/refresh-command-center-handoff.tar.gz` to a persistent location (it's in a Cowork sandbox scratchpad that gets wiped; its `.zip` is 0 bytes — the real zip is the temp file `zilL9HIz`).

## Files to open (read these, don't re-derive)
- `shared-skills/refresh/SKILL.md` — the skill itself (v0.5.0); source of truth.
- `.claude-plugin/skills-map.json` — `refresh` is under `departments.meta.skills`.
- `sync-skills.sh` / `build-zips.sh` — the regenerate-then-zip pipeline; run in that order before pushing.
- `CLAUDE.md` (repo root) — repo conventions (shared-skills workflow, build steps).

## Avoid repeating
- Don't run `git commit`/`git push` in the background or alongside other git commands — it corrupted the repo last time.
- Don't hand-edit `plugins/*/skills/` — `sync-skills.sh` overwrites them.
- A stray `shared-skills/community-replies/` keeps reappearing on disk (untracked); it belongs only in the private repo `benai-skills-private`. Delete it if it shows up; don't commit it to public.
