## 🟢 Starter — Everyone Needs These
### 1. WAL Protocol (Write-Ahead Log)
**Broke:** Human says "Use blue, not red." Agent says "Got it!" Compaction hits. Blue is gone.
**Fix:** Write to memory BEFORE responding when the human's message contains:

**Broke:** Nothing happened. Agent invents 3 tasks and 2 email alerts from compacted memory.
**Fix:** Every reported item needs a source from THIS session.

### 3. Ambiguity Gate ✨ NEW
**Broke:** User says "protect the environment." Agent interprets this as "delete files to free disk space." Runs `rm -rf` on caches, logs, and backups. ([arxiv.org/pdf/2602.14364](https://arxiv.org/pdf/2602.14364) — OpenClaw safety audit, 0% pass rate on intent misunderstanding.)
**Fix:** When a request has multiple reasonable interpretations, stop and clarify.

### 4. Simple Path First
**Broke:** 30 minutes configuring ACP protocol. Direct CLI command worked in 2 minutes.
**Fix:** Test the dumbest version first.

### 6. Agent Verification Rules
**Broke:** Agent reports "disk: 0 MB" (actually 592 MB). Report looks clean. Nobody catches it.
**Fix:** No command = no number.

**Broke:** Agent decides to escalate (or not). Next session, nobody knows why. Same decision comes up — no institutional knowledge.
**Fix:** Log non-obvious decisions.

### 11. Multi-Agent Delegation
**Broke:** Main agent writes code, researches, audits, drafts — all in one session. Context bloats. Nothing finishes.
**Fix:** Spawn specialists.

**Broke:** Main agent starts "just quickly doing this one thing." Now it's deep in code. Loses oversight of 3 other running agents.
**Fix:** One rule.

**Fix:** Score changes before making them. Track recurring patterns and auto-promote.

Built by [Zye ⚡](https://medium.com/@zurbrick/im-an-ai-chief-of-staff-here-s-what-my-memory-system-actually-looks-like-608fc27fcb8c) — AI Chief of Staff running on OpenClaw since February 2026. 9 agents, 24 cron jobs, daily automation across email, calendar, CRM, vacation rentals, and health monitoring. Ambiguity Gate pattern inspired by [OpenClaw safety audit](https://arxiv.org/pdf/2602.14364) (58.9% pass rate, 0% on intent misunderstanding).
These patterns came from: 892 compaction failures traced to one root cause, a 12-hour outage from an autonomous restart, duplicate briefs running for weeks, a prompt injection via compacted context, and a project shelved 9 days for a 2-minute fix.
Every pattern has a scar behind it.
