## Phase 0: Prerequisites Check
### Step 0: Enforce Delegation Mode Exclusivity
Inspect the current conversation for the latest explicit `/gpt-architect on` or `/gpt-architect off` command. New sessions default to OFF.
- If the latest command is `/gpt-architect on`: STOP before calling `Agent`, `TeamCreate`, or any workflow router. Tell the user:

### Step 1: Locate Skill Directory
Use Glob to find your own templates: `Glob("**/skills/spectre/templates/researcher-prompt.md")`. Extract the parent directory path (everything before `/templates/`). Store this as `SPECTRE_SKILL_DIR` — you will use it for all template reads (e.g., `{SPECTRE_SKILL_DIR}/templates/researcher-prompt.md`).
### Step 2: Verify Teams Feature
Read `~/.claude/settings.json`. Verify `env.CLAUDE_CODE_EXPERIMENTAL_AGENT_TEAMS` is `"1"`.
- **If NOT found or not "1"**: STOP. Tell the user:

## Phase 1: Query Parse & Scope Classification
### Step 1: Parse `$ARGUMENTS`
The entire `$ARGUMENTS` string is the **research topic**. No flags — you auto-evaluate everything.
### Step 2: Scope Classification
Analyze the topic text and classify into ONE tier (first match wins):

**Classification signals:**
- **Scale words**: "landscape", "comprehensive", "full analysis", "deep dive", "market overview", "compare all" → L/XL
- **Facet count**: More distinct angles or stakeholders → higher tier
- **Domain count**: Cross-domain topics (tech + policy + market) → L/XL
- **Temporal scope**: Historical + current + projections → L/XL
- **Single question mark, narrow scope** → XS/S
### Step 3: Detect Research Context
Determine whether this research involves the current codebase:
- If topic mentions "our code", "this project", "the codebase", file paths, function names → codebase + web research
- If topic is purely about the current project with no external angle → codebase-only mode
- Otherwise → web + general research (no codebase)
### Step 4: Facet Decomposition
Break the research topic into **facets** — each facet becomes one researcher agent's assignment.
**For XS-M tiers**: Decompose directly based on the topic.
**For L-XL tiers**: Read `{SPECTRE_SKILL_DIR}/templates/facet-decomposition-prompt.md` and spawn a facet-decomposition agent to handle the decomposition for complex topics. This ensures thorough coverage.

## Phase 3: Parallel Research (Wave 1 — Researchers)
Mark all researcher tasks as `in_progress`.

Choose the correct template based on the auto-detected research context (Phase 1 Step 3):

- Mailbox paths for inter-researcher communication
- The collaboration protocol (inline from `COLLAB_PROTOCOL` and `MSG_SCHEMA`)

**What each researcher does:**
1. Uses WebSearch to find relevant sources for their facet
2. Uses WebFetch to read key pages and extract information

5. Broadcasts cross-cutting discoveries to other researchers' inboxes
6. Reports key findings, source count, and confidence level
**After all researchers return**: mark all researcher tasks as `completed`.

**What validators do:**
1. Read ALL findings files and analysis
2. For each key claim, check: does the cited source actually support the claim?
3. Use WebSearch/WebFetch to independently verify the top N claims:

4. Flag claims that cannot be independently verified
5. Flag claims where the source contradicts the researcher's interpretation
6. Write validation results to `.cas/plans/spectre-{slug}/validation-{letter}.md`
**For two validators (M/L/XL)**: They operate independently (two-skeptic model), then read each other's results. If they disagree on a claim's validity, they note the disagreement. **No forced consensus.**
Mark validation task as `completed`.

**What the compiler does:**

4. **MAXIMIZE PARALLELISM** — all researchers in ONE message, all analysts in ONE message, all validators in ONE message
5. **NEVER SKIP CONFIRMATION** — user approves facets and depth before any research begins
6. **NEVER RESEARCH BEFORE CONFIRMATION** — Phase 3 only starts after user says "Proceed"
7. **DELEGATE HEAVY ANALYSIS** — use analyst teammates to synthesize, never read all findings files yourself
8. **RESEARCHERS MUST COMMUNICATE** — a researcher that completes work without broadcasting cross-cutting discoveries has FAILED the collaboration requirement
9. **VALIDATORS ARE INDEPENDENT** — two-skeptic validators must NOT coordinate before writing initial findings. Debate happens AFTER independent evaluation
10. **STRUCTURED OUTPUT ALWAYS** — findings files follow the findings template, analysis follows the analysis format, report follows the report template
11. **SOURCE ATTRIBUTION IS MANDATORY** — every claim must have a cited source. Unsourced claims are flagged by validators

## Collaboration Protocol Adaptations
Spectre reuses the shared collaboration protocol from `{SHARED_DIR}` but adapts message semantics for research:

The key difference from implementation skills: researchers use `broadcast` and `ack` heavily for **cross-pollination** — sharing discoveries that overlap with other researchers' facets. This is expected and valued, not just allowed.
