## When to use
- Identify and eliminate waste (muda)
- Create value flow and pull systems
- Apply Lean thinking to processes

Out of scope: Kaizen events (kaizen), Six Sigma (six-sigma), Theory of Constraints (teoria-das-restricoes).

## Core principles
1. Define value from the customer's perspective.
2. Map the value stream; remove non-value steps.
3. Make value flow; let customers pull.
4. Pursue perfection through continuous improvement.

## Workflow / Process
1. **Clarify** — confirm the goal, constraints, and current state before acting.
2. **Assess** — inspect what exists; find the real problem, not the symptom.
3. **Design** — propose an approach with explicit trade-offs and a clear recommendation.
4. **Execute** — implement in small, verifiable steps using Lean conventions.
5. **Verify** — validate against value-stream waste reduced and flow/lead time improved.

## Best practices
- Map value streams to expose waste.
- Target the eight wastes (DOWNTIME).
- Create flow; reduce batch sizes and handoffs.
- Implement pull to avoid overproduction.

## Anti-patterns
- Optimizing local steps while the whole flow stalls.
- Cutting cost in ways that harm customer value.
- Tools without the underlying respect-for-people culture.
